Was it good? Yes, I enjoyed it. But not as a horror fan, rather than being horror it was more of a dramatic romance mixed with ghosts. Literally the last episode kinda makes reference to this, lol.
Total amount of jumps: 3. Sadly the 3 jumps were because of cheap jumpscares, the "JUMP IN YOUR FACE" kind. I am a scaredy cat. But I can say 100% I'll be able to sleep after this without being afraid hehe.
The story itself isn't bad, sadly it has a slow pacing at the beginning, then I think it was episode 5 which starts to get good. After that the story kinda shifts gears and becomes something else. Episode 1 - 5 focus on a single problem. Trauma is a characteristic of the main character and after the 5th episode....it is kinda glossed over and completely forgotten.
Episode 5, 6, 7 and 8 are literally....flashbacks containing repetitive scenes which isn't bad but it can get tiresome. The main antagonist are presented from the beginning and we see the amount of threat they present, but then the lady of the lake becomes the MAIN main antagonist and Peter is just ....there?
The ending is bittersweet, but I didn't mind that at all. Great stories have bad endings or let's say not happy endings. I don't really have that many more thoughts. I really liked all the characters except for Henry. Sadly the series is VERY predictable, I could tell what was going to happen, and the main reasons behind the ghosts before they had time to show it.
I actually enjoyed both, Hill house was much more "spookier" in a sense, and had a more straightforward plot (with lots of flashbacks lol). But Bly's story was just as good. Unless you're not into romance at all, then definitely Hill house would be the better choice.
