This is a continuation of the ongoing personal updates for my status in the current storm known as Harvey. I had been using my profile status and comments, but this update was just too long. Harvey is now a Tropical Storm, but it did make landfall as a cat 4 hurricane. Despite how bad it looks and sounds in the news reports, my family lives on high ground and we aren't at risk for flooding. Even if I lose power (and/or plumbing), I'm all set to ride it out with high ground, plenty of food and potable water, and some backup battery packs to keep my phone changed up 'just in case.' I even have a panic bag all packed and ready to go I just want you all to keep that in mind as the news reports come out of Houston and the Texas coast. It's bad, the worst it's been in a long time, but me and mine are all just fine. Some places down here have received 30" of rain in the past few days (and there's still a bit more to come), and it's now being recognized as an 800 year flood for some areas. All the clips I've seen of our major roads really look a lot more like raging rivers rather than highly sophisticated metropolitan infrastructure. There is some speculation that the storm may strengthen a bit in the gulf before tracking North over Houston. I'm not sure what the wind effect will be when that happens, but none of our weather gurus seem to be very concerned about that at the moment. As a bit of good news, socially speaking, the spirit of the Empire really reminds me a lot of the spirit of Houston and Texas (and our kind neighbors in Louisiana), so I'm sure you can imagine the friendliness and helpfulness that's just been constantly pouring in.
