Origin of idea I'm kind of stealing this idea from Twitch, but often many creators have commands for OG members of the community in order to prompt pre-written answers for FAQs. Context / Situation to be used I can imagine New player asking: Are there claims? Are there bases? How do I claim a res next to my friend? How do I make a shop? How to give permissions -> this could also be expanded to niche topics maybe for not-new players but somewhat common topics Action to be taken then... a community member (possibly hand-picked volunteers or for everyone to use) will type in chat !claims (this is twitch format) and MC version might be /faq claims and it would say... something helpful there are residences in plot world called Town (no mobs, no resources). fully protected and custom permissions with friends. For Claims in the /wild (regular world gen), you can build a base there, and then create a post in the community forum to claim it this is what I personally wrote today to someone, but I know my writing is usually more analytical with unnecesary details... ideally it would be more to the point than what I wrote, and end in Read more in /wiki page What problem am I solving? Having staff-approved, pre written answers might help be more precise and have a overall congruent voice as a community. having less confusion among new players, and hopefully avoiding logouts because of promptly answers to their questions which are in simple terms. Extra Thoughts I would limit globally /faq specificproblem to only be used at least every 5 mins so that if multiple people answer to the same player, then you can however I would allow any player to type /faq problem1 /faq problem 2 , consecutively in case they are answering multiple questions possibly a dedicated or multiple wiki pages for FAQs for in-game use.
I really like this idea! I've been active for long enough to provide answers to new players but there are days my memory fails me or I'm just not confident in giving an answer. Preapproved short answers will allow me to pitch in more often.
So as far as commands to make replying to new players go; I have this to say. How would you feel if you just joined and asked a question is you got 2 or 3 replies that were the same canned reply? Would you feel like you were being helped? When I joined EMC the sole reason I stayed around was because of the helpful chats of 2 players. LadBlo (now EvilBlo) and Blackstone71. They helped me see the community, not just how to play on EMC. I believe that standard replies are nice but being 'real' is better for community. Feel free to create your own replies to standard questions using something like macro mod but I really really think if we want that new player to stay then a command driven reply is not the way. Just my two cents. ~Socks
