I was sitting at my chest and I saw a few players using all caps for advertisements. I thought "They must want to be heard, is all." It IS quite difficult to view certain lines of text amidst the sea of words that is the chat channel. It could be useful for distinguishing advertisements and otherwise. Another idea would be to have another chat channel that would keep text a certain color when typed in. Personally the "T" and "L" next to the text is small and still hard to distinguish. I had more on this, but I got lost in a grilled cheese sandwich. Thoughts?(Not on the grilled cheese, it was good)
I like this idea. The only problem is that with lots of colors, the chat becomes "loud" and intrusive, just as when people use caps. Although I do like the idea of colored keywords (maybe "selling" and "buying" etc). Or maybe there could be a separate chat that people would use specifically for trading, much like the one WoW uses?
I don't really like this idea, if everyone is writing in colours, it would soon not stand out. Then there is the fact that different colours signify different messages, for example, tells are different colours to normal messages, system messages and so on, and you want those to stand out. In my opinion chat should be for chatting. If people really need to spam unsolicited shop advertisements, maybe they could have their own spam channel that is a different colour. Then we could all opt out if we wish.
Maybe an "Advert" command. You can only use it so often and it has it's own unique color. Maybe once every 5-10 minutes.
The downside to using colours is that it actually relies on people, well, using them. Therein lies the problem. I could type /advert Selling Glowstone at... OR I COULD DO THIS WHICH IS QUICK AND EASY BECAUSE I DONT KNOW ANY BETTER BLAHBLAHBLAH :s
In the past I have suggested a chat channel solely dedicated to shop adds. This channel would be just like any other channel and once part of it you will be able to see everyone's adds they are typing, if you no longer want to see the shop add, leave the channel. I have yet to hear any thing from the staff on this idea, so here's hoping
I think that it could work. Red could be a Shop Ad Blue could be looking for something to buy Green could be looking to trade etc. And if you misuse Color Codes, you will be warned. If you do it again, you will be kicked. If you do it again, we will (somehow) prevent you from using them until further notice.
