Ethanrider and I have made a handy spot just west of wilderness spawn. Let me know if it's useful to you. I'm hoping folks can avoid ruining it. I expect to have to maintain it some.
Hate to break it to ya, but griefers have no heart. I'd keep a watchful eye on it or move it far out.
hopefully your far enough out. biggest thing you can do to hide it is if your in the forest cover it with leafs on top and if your in a sand area cover it with sand and so on, we have a place so far and it had gone untouched for about a week and a half now!
You would think with a server community as great as the Empire would deter greifers or turn them into good minecraft sumaritans of sorts. Especially on a server with this many features and perks. Sadly this isn't the case. I like others on this thread suggest going way out past spawn hiding your base under ground and avoid leaving any traces of your presence on the surface(torches, 1x1 towers). Also, one of our best tools, the live map, is also a greifers best friend. Make sure your structure cannot be seen from the map and if you are a supporter be sure you utilize the /maphide command to mask your location while you are at your base in the wild for an extended period of time. Greifers have no heart, they cannot be reasoned with or trusted.
