  1. I have a couple of questions:
    1. do "main.empireminecraft.com" and "smp1.empireminecraft.com" both send you to the same thing? I'm pretty sure the top right corner said main.emp... before and now it says smp1.emp... so i'm a bit curious

    2. I've hosted lots of servers before(not big public servers but servers for me and friends) and I want to know how to make it so people can type "xxx.websitename.com" as the IP to logon to a server.

BTW the poll was out of curiosity.

  2....

I truly have no clue, but I bet you money a Mod is posting as I speak.

This might help me later on as well, I support your curiosity!
  3. Well it depends if you have a dynamic ip address or a static ip address. Static means it does not change, and dynamic means it changes evey time you connect to the internet. If you have a static ip then you just use any service that provides you with a DNS (domain name server) and set it up for your ip. I have a dynamic ip, therefore I had to log into router and use one of the DDNS (dynamic domain name server) that linksys had a contract with for DDNS services. DyDNS.com is usable on most routers, is free, and is easy to use. DyDNS is good for static ips to, so I would recommend that. Regarding your first question I belive both addresses are the same.

  4. The host names main and smp1 point at the same server. We decided to change it to smp1 to support future changes, but kept the main for people that were using that :)

And yes what Joshhsoj0 said is a great about DNS with a dynamic IP address.
  5. alright thanks!
