  1. Hello EMC, I have come up with the idea of having landmarks scattered across the wildernesses in all of the servers. I think this would be a great way to improve the wilderness in the following ways:

Reasone One: At this point in time, the wildernesses of EMC can be described as "Apples with worm tunnels". Usually, I dont even have to mine 10 blocks down to find a "worm tunnel". I follow it, which leads to 3 more tunnels, I pick one, which leads to even more tunnels. If this repeats, I could get lost easily. So having landmarks around the wilderness will guide me home.

Reson Two: Also, with all of this careless resource mining, the wilderness has also become quite ugly. Imagine walking down a grassy hill, smiling to a sheep *shears* :p and looking up to see a beautiful site. You would have to travel to a place, sure, but that's what makes the whole thing fun. This realates to real life, if you want to see something, you have to plan a trip and travel there. This would make going to the wilderness a more enjoyable experience.

Of course, there is always the thought of griefing, so I really hope a moderator is listening right now, because maybe, just maybe, the landmarks can be EMC run and have a protected area around them.

Ideas: Whether it may be a fountain of lava, an awesome skyscraper, something carved in the side of a mountain, a beautiful wool art arrangment, or a statue, it would brighten my day, and probably yours too.

I will be grateful for your ideas on the landmarks, and/or a vote of your thoughts about this idea.

    Thanks :D

  2. This reminds me of something I posted..
  3. I think the wilderness is that way for a reason. You can get lost in the wilderness, and rightfully so. You always have the option to get out a compass or to use the live map. Also, landmarks will quickly be griefed for resources and if they are protected, would be a pain to set multiple area-specific protections.

  5. Sorry, haven't checked this thread in awhile, but I did say It could be mod-run... :/
  6. make a monument that looks bad enought hat its not worht griefin ie mising blocks ugly as heck but it gets job done
  7. Couple of things cross my mind on this subject.

Everyone says that the Wild is a mess and it is a mess, but only for a very short distance outside of the Spawn area.
Once you're past the Reset Area and a few hundred blocks in, it's just normal Wild. Very few people want dirt, so everyone digs down and the damage is hidden.

So just go out that bit further if you want damage-free existence.

The subject of landmarks means they'd have to be protected by EMC or they'd be griefed, it's as simple as that. This isn't a path EMC wishes to go down I think, because how do you quantify what gets protected and what doesn't?

You also have Live Map and your Compass as well as F3 so really, you should never get -that- lost in the Wild if you plan and keep a log of where you've been. I have a small notepad and pencil beside my computer for jotting down co-ordinates of interest or note to help me find my way back.

I had thought about creating Bothys: http://www.mountainbothies.org.uk/bothies.asp which I've used a lot in real life. They're simple to make and can provide a safe haven, but if they're griefed, they're easy to fix.
