[EVENT] naM's Event Speedrun Competition

Discussion in 'Public Member Events' started by naMrorriM, Nov 3, 2024 at 5:09 AM.

  1. This will be a recurring competition with every EMC Seasonal Event.

    How it works:

Players can enter by submitting a video of their speedrun to this thread.
Every midnight EMC time, points will be given out to whoever is holding the podium spots. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will earn 4, 2, and 1 point(s) respectively. I will try to guard the podium with my own best time but I will exclude myself from the prizes at the end of the challenge. The daily point system is to discourage waiting until the final day to post a great run and keep people competitive throughout the event. However, the points given to podium holders on the final day will be doubled (8, 4 , and 2).
You must post video proof of your run in this thread. You do not need to add a timer or use livesplit, an unedited video will suffice.
If the map changes making your route impossible, those times will be removed from the podium.

Season 1: The Curse of the Crystal Crown
This competition will last from November 3rd to 17th (Unless the event disappears sooner).

    Speedrun Category: 6 Secrets%

Rules: Find the first 6 secrets of the event. Seeing the in-game message containing “You found Secret #X” is sufficient, you do not need to finish the maze at Secret #2 for example. Secrets do not need to be found in order.
There is a bug when entering Secret #1 from the past where the message will only read "Secret #", excluding the number 1. This will still count towards progress in this speedrun.

Timer starts when you hit the reset button.
Timer ends when you find your 6th secret.

Prizes (According to point totals after November 17th):

1st Place: 30k rupees, and a Season 1 Gold Medal (Custom player head)
2nd Place: 20k rupees, and a Season 1 Silver Medal (Custom player head)
3rd Place: 10k rupees, and a Season 1 Bronze Medal (Custom player head)
ALL players win 1k rupees per point earned in the season and a commemorative signed book.

Plus a 20k Bounty for anyone who beats my time, once per player per season.

  2. Awesome initiative.
Also, love that you found those diagonal jumps through the security maze to save some time. :)
Here is my submission; although i don't think it should count. I used a glitch that will probably get patched "soon" so this time might not be possible later.
In any case: you can skip a large part of the event by jumping through a hole in the barrier blocks at the top of the waterfall. That's how I got a time of about 2:58.

For the sake of this competition I'll try to make a run without this glitch because it wouldn't be fair if it got patched tomorrow or so, but i wanted to share anyway since it's just a really nice run and it shows of a few nice techniques. (unlocking postgame before anything else, offhanding the crystal to go to the present town)

  3. I'll say that absolutely counts and I added this to the main post: If the map changes making your route impossible, those times will be removed from the podium.

  4. not very refined since you can see me flailing around when I come out of a teleport lol, mostly just climbed the waterfall faster I think

  5. Wow I don't know a lot about swimming in this game. After trying that strat and retiming Jewel's run, I have me at 2:30.75 and Jewel two frames faster at 2:30.72.

  6. something like 2:27? Im not entirely sure how to measure it more precisely

  7. An easy way without extra tools is: Right click video > Stats for nerds > 2nd bottom line "Mystery Text" shows time in seconds > Use the "<, >" keys to find the exact frames and take the difference.

Feel free to post your exact timings yourselves but I'm not asking anyone to do that in the interest of making the event easily accessible, less work for the runners. We can go by whole seconds until the runs get too close.
