The Car Love Thread!

  1. The early VW Sciroccos, Polos, Golfs and Jettas are great! The classic look has so much more character and charm. The VW Caddy is pretty decent too, basically the classic ones are Golfs but with a pickup bed instead :p
  2. 350z's are awesome. Plus they are actually withing the realm of affordability.
  3. I have several "favorite" cars, and love many more. My favorite super cars would have to be the Nissan GTR and McLaren P1. Ferraris and Lambos are all good and fine, but the GTR is solely focused on performance and is an outstanding piece of engineering. Something about the high class, hand stitched attitude often present in Italian car manufacturers is a bit of a turn-off for me. NOT to say they are not INCREDIBLE cars (because they are).

In the luxury class, the Lexus LFA is another beautiful car. I love its aggressive styling and unique features.

However, while such cars are incredible, I prefer to dwell upon the more attainable. Currently, I have been smitten with the upcoming 2016 Cadillac CTS V. In the last few years, Cadillac has made incredible progress in vehicle dynamics (magnetic dampening yadayada yada). The '16 CTS V is no exception, and will have a 464 hp twin turbo V6 with which to hurl itself about. It's gon be good.

On an even more affordable note, the Scion FRS (Or subaru BRZ for those loyal to horizontal motors) would be a very fun car to own (though not entirely practical)

I am currently working on restoring a 1949 Chevrolet Short bed pickup (5 window). I'm restoring the interior to mint condition (as possible) and leaving the exterior body rusted and mossy (patina). I hope to have it close to being done by the end of this summer and will post progress pictures if desired.

I currently drive a 1999 Subaru Forester. It is great, and I plan on getting a newer outback in the future.

  4. Mercedes SLS Black edition. I like this. It has the cool doors that lift straight up and everything! They also make an all-electric edition of this, that was featured on Top Gear a while back. Very big and in lime green:

dAlso, Mercedes made a really cool self-driving car!
Here is a thing where it drives itself to a convention in Las Vegas.

One of those movies also has literal car love... I totally forgot what car Herbie fell in love with, though.

  7. The Audi 50! Considered to be the rarer, more beautiful version of the VW Polo Mk1. These Audis were produced in much smaller numbers than the Polo Mk1 (180k but many of these no longer exist due to scrapping etc), and even then, the Polo Mk1 is in quite scarce numbers too (ones left over, for the same reasons as the Audi 50). In fact, there are so little of these Audis left that there is only one registered in North America. ONE!

My 72 MGB, me and my dad spent 2 years restoring it (it was a budget rebuilt, 1,500 US tops :)). Right now the ignition switch is messed up, got to order a new one. Any other classic british car owners out there?

  11. Beautiful car! My dad used to have the MG Midget, and my grandparents have owned countless classic Brit cars, my uncle had a Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico too, but I don't think we have any Brit classics left in the family anymore :( I may get one sometime though, all depends on what cars I decide to buy of course ;)
  12. Thank you :)

Yha, midgets really scare me (Imagine seeing that sentence out of context), its like a big go kart (not that my mg isn't). We just bought 2 more Bs to be restored and flipped, and we might get a TR6 or two to rebuild ... or keep.

  13. I just found this car called the Citroen BX. They don't cost a lot on eBay, but there aren't many around at all... It has an interesting design, it's certainly not gorundbreaking but I wouldn't say it's ugly either. It's kind of alright... Thoughts? :D

  15. I don't know why VW called it the Rabbit when they sold it to the US  The VW Rabbit is the VW Golf Mk1 here, and it is a very similar car to the VW Polo Mk1 (I think the Golf is slightly more 'sporty', but they are both almost exactly the same) and the Audi 50 was just a 'special' re-badged VW Polo Mk1 :p So, yes, it's all very similar ;)

  16. I've never quite made up my mind on Citroens, maybe I just haven't given them much thought. Does kinda look like a wabbit with a stretch of the imagination.
  17. I was referring to the Audi 50, LOtad.
