  1. Ninja'd, but still have some info to offer:
Here is the wiki page that explains some details:
    http://empireminecraft.com/wiki/world-frontier/
The system will not allow you to place a locked chest inside the periodic reset area.

Cosmetic changes may impact some routes/tunnels/bridges, but only within the limits of the periodic reset area (or very close to it) and the major routes out of spawn are intentionally preserved. Some corrections may be needed if you have a small or hidden path, but it might be better to reroute any such path to avoid future issues. Keep in mind that the area of impact is pretty limited on the map as a whole. If you are not building right next to spawn, then you won't have issues at all.

The wiki has information about establishing outpost here:
    http://empireminecraft.com/wiki/established-outposts/

Some of the wiki information may be incomplete or hard to understand, but please read it and we will try to update/improve it based on what questions you still have. The wiki team is still new compared to the empire as a whole, and a lot of the information is in a constant state of revision.
  2. What just_five is trying to say is no, you will not need to worry about your builds being affected by my manual clean up. I take great care and even clean up access tunnels, bridges, etc as I go. It is all manual, most of it not including world edit even. If your access tunnel is a drop down in the middle of nowhere, then you need to change your access system anyway, but if you are worried about a stairway, be assured that it will remain unblocked. It might even get a bit of a cleanup from griefing for free =)

  3. Limits and server modifications are already in place to keep things running as smooth as possible. In recent weeks, the biggest problems causing lag are network related. Hundreds of people connecting and interacting with a server at the same time creates a lot of traffic. If you are using anything but an excellent high speed connection, you will notice issues, and most people use the generic term 'lag'. Network lag and server lag are caused by different things. A quick use of the /tps command will tell you that the servers are usually ticking with little or no lag.(haven't seen under 18tps since tnt was limited)

If having the wastelands was a major contribution to server lag, it would be a greater focus of our constant server improvements. Aikar monitors performance daily and there has been no lag introduced by the wastelands since it's release.
  4. How many [Item X] are there in the waste on [Server Y]?

I think it would be interesting to see the results of such questions. Perhaps some data queries ran against the waste prior to reset? (or archive the data files for future analysis)

Heck, I'm familiar with the Minecraft data files and would be willing to assist.

Wouldn't be interesting to know how many torches were distributed throughout the Wastelands? and similar questions?

And are there significant variances on the stats across different servers?

  5. Cool idea! I believe nearly all the world data is stored in the standard minecraft format. Player data is not stored in the world files. Due to the fact that the world size of the wastelands is fixed, I imagine that they are of more manageable size for searching than the frontier maps.
I'm not sure how useful beyond trivia the information would be, but I approve of the idea if you are willing/able to set something up.
Aikar is the owner, I can't say 'yes', but you should contact him before friday to give him a little time to consider the idea. I doubt if Aikar has the time to do the queries, but hopefully security concerns don't get in the way of allowing you to check them out, maybe even the contribution team would want to get involved.

  6. Doing something like torches might not be good. They don't particularly like going away when I world edit areas so idk if they would log as easy as a block. I can see things like how many diamond ore blocks still existed before we reset etc might be interesting statistic-wise and will talk to Aikar about maybe getting those numbers saved prior to the reset.
    However, I can't promise anything =)

  7. Does it matter if the torches are in chunks that are not loaded, or are you just using them as a sign of human activity?
  8. Awesome, thanks krysyy! I imagine as soon as they've been reset I'll try to head out and get some much-needed supplies. This is greatly appreciated! :D Look out, Wastelands, here I come!
  9. Would be happy to help filling in holes near wild spawn. I do some of this periodically anyway. Supplies are always available in the wastelands, you really don't have to go out more than 10 mins beyond the spawn to find them.

  10. I believe this has been asked many times but I could not find the answer anywhere.
Could anyone tell me where I can check the "EMC time"?
    Thanks.
  11. If you type /time ingame, it will give it to you.
It is EDT currently (Eastern daylight savings time USA)

  12. Thanks!
  13. What happens if I'm not in town by then? I'm currently sailing in the middle of the ocean about 20,000 x away from spawn!
  14. Wastelands, not the frontier

  15. I'm not in the frontier
  16. Then how are you 20k blocks from spawn?

  17. Open Season on Wasteland Chests?

Throughout the wastelands, on different servers, I've noted several chests with interesting contents. (Yes, I looked, but I never touched)

With the pending reset, it seems to be a waste (pardon the pun) to see it all go *poof*

Could we specify time (e.g. 1-2 hours before reset) for which it's open season on any unclaimed items folks have left behind?
  18. Sorry, that will be a definite no.
It's not in the idea of this reset to profit from items that other player were unfortunate enough to leave behind.

  19. As it should be.
