Stories - of the IRL Kind!

  1. So, I've seen a few discussion threads lately and realized you don't see too many about just... stories from people's lives. I'm bored (and very tired) and figured I could start something cool (maybe). :p

So... just post a story from your life. Anything that happened. Maybe you forgot to put ham on your ham and cheese sandwich and had a laugh about it with your friends, or maybe you have a friend from 10 years ago that changed the entire course of your life. I don't particularly care what kind of story it is, just post it... just make sure it isn't anything (too) crazy or explicit, keep it appropriate, and we'll all be good.

So, a year or so ago my family and I lived in a rented home. We have three cats, and one of our cats is an indoor-outdoor cat (Macho). He used to stay out for long periods of time so we would leave out food and water for him. Eventually, we started noticing he had another little friend, an long-haired pale ginger tabby. At first, she didn't come to anyone, and would run as soon as she saw any of us..

Over time, she started coming up to me. I gave her treats on occasion (because we kept Friskies treats in the house for the cats), and of course she ate some of Macho's food, lol. She looked to be really young, 6-8 months old. She had the most pathetic little meow too.

Eventually, she was comfortable enough that she would let me pick her up, and pet her, etc. She would come when I called her "Lil' Girl." But all too soon, the date the lease ended and we were supposed to be moving into a house my parents bought loomed closer. I begged anyone who would listen to me to take this cat in, and eventually my grandmother agreed... Of course, life had a different plan. She was pregnant and we decided to come get her a day later. The day we came, she had already had the kittens. We didn't realize it until after we got her in the cage, and she started flipping out (even though I had put her in the cage before to get her familiarized) and practically screaming and of course, she was much lighter when picked up...

Needless to say, we couldn't take her with us or else the kittens would have died. So we let her go, and spent the remaining days on the lease trying to find the kittens, but we never could find them. Kind of sucks, but shows that real life stories don't exactly always have closure. :(

You guys got any stories you want to share? Happier ones, maybe...? Any is welcome, of course. :p
  2. After a while in my first apartment, I found the access to the attic. I wasn't sure if it was ok to go up there, but I took a chance. There wasn't much up there but there was one really cool item. It was an avocado green, velour, swivel rocker type chair. I loved that chair. I had it for like 15 years. After all that time the chair had become really worn and started to fall apart. I don't know if I will ever find another, but it was definitely one of my most favorite free things ever.

  3. So we do this kinda funny thing here in my house.

So our house has some weird things that go on every now and then.
When my Uncle and Grandpa died, we had them both cremated, separate boxes of course, and we have them both near the fireplace. We never opened the boxes they came in, just put my Grandpa's box in his favorite toolbox (he was a Electrical Engineer, so he had a old blue rusty toolbox holding all his stuff) and Uncle was put in his favorite cigar box.

So. Naturally, my Mother gets the vibes that they're still in the house doing stuff. I.E. stuff will fall at random, stuff will move etc.
I started doing this thing. Every time some "weird occurrence" happened, I would walk over to their boxes, knock on them, and tell them "To behave, she's crazy enough, don't make her go over that." Its been a running joke since they died 2 years ago, and my Mother even started doing it too.

    We're a weird family lmao.

  4. Hm. I don't know, this is one that a few but not many people know.

There is a nickname I wear in the real world. "Dog Whisperer." Seems simple.
    Here's why.

There was a day, freshman year in high school, it had actually snowed *for once*. I was out walking Sadie (where I get my IGN from), and she tucked her tail. I looked up, and there, just fifteen feet from us by my old swingset, was a wolf. Wolves around here are... rare to impossible. My instinct was actually to drop the leash and run but no, I was afraid. I stood there, staring at it, but here's the kicker.
It tucked its tail and laid down.
I stood in my place for a good half hour until dad decided to come out and figure out why we were taking so long, and he found the wolf. That's where I get my name. That wolf still comes to me from time to time- I have yet to figure out how a WOLF got to Tennessee.

... But yeah. Dog whisperer... something I hate being called.
Maybe next time I'll do why my IGN is Sadie_dog. Though I hinted it here.

  5. Wolfdogs are actually a popular "exotic" pet, and sometimes, simply wolves are sold (illegally) as pets. Usually, one has to have particular permits or rights in order to take these animals, but many people don't care about that... So on occasion, dogs/wolves are found wandering. A famous case I can think of is, if you know the show Pit Bulls and Parolees, the owner of the Villalobos sanctuary is Tia Maria Torrez (or... however you spell her name >.>) and she used to work with wolves. Not that long ago, they were called desperately to help with a case of over 14 wolves/wolfdogs abandoned by somebody.

Just my thoughts on how you have a wolf in Tennessee. Certain dogs also look a LOT like wolves, epecially if they were feral and bred in the wild.

I want someone to do this to me.

That sounds amazing. I would love to find a free chair like that. o.o

  6. I recently escaped the horrors of working night-shift. In talking to one of my friends, I described this as "no longer living the Vampire lifestyle."
Him: "Aww, but what about the cars, women, and immortality?"
Me: "I'd sooner take a garlic-flavored steak through the aorta."
...One thing lead to another (and left me craving some juicy red meat), so now Marie and I are heading to my parents' this weekend to grill steaks.

    . . . and now I'm drooling again. Dangit.

  7. Whatever the reason, steaks are amazing. A+.
