Writing "&" on a sign

I need an advice. I want to write this symbol "&" on a sign, the problem is that when I do that, the text written after it becomes white and the symbol disappears. I am pretty sure I remember writing it on signs in Minecraft before. Is this something new to Minecraft or is it EMC specific? And if so, what is it?

This is an EMC specific feature, if you use the /colors command in-game you'll see what I mean. As you noticed yourself you can change the color and formatting of the text by using the right code (&5&o for example).

But to answer your question: use &&, that will place a literal & character.

Colors on signs are not an EMC specific feature, they're usually available on most servers provided they have a plugin/support for it (Yes, even the non-custom coded ones).
