Why Is SMP7 So Much More Active Than The Others?

Discussion in 'Community Discussion' started by TuckerAmbr, Oct 29, 2018.

  1. The games server is amazing but I feel it took away a lot of the activity from the smps and that has not necessarily been beneficial to smp specific excitement. Not to mention I'm sure it's not free running that additional server. If anything needs to be eliminated maybe the games server should be looked at first. Bring the events/games back to the smps.
  2. Rarely is anyone on it except at prime time

AS far as condensing the smps, the wild is really the problem. copying peoples outposts is not a solution. I have builds all over the wilds of multiple smps that are not in outposts. In the nether and the end as well. Most of the builds in the wild on emc are not in outposts/empires. To me, the whole allure of EMC is that the frontier doesn't get deleted/reset. This would be the death knell for me and many.

And the point earlier about smp7 used to have been a dead smp so a bunch of people bought a bunch of residences together... I am not sure when smp7 would be able to be considered a dead smp. There is only one time in the 3+ years that I have played where I would have considered smp7 to even be in the bottom 5 smps as far as activity went and that wasn't long at all. There were a few times that I had been absent for a while but the only time I remember someone getting a bunch of res near each other was when foxy had done it and there was a LOT of activity during that time as well.

What a lot of people don't understand about them getting 30, 40 or 50+ res is that it doesn't change how many are available, at least not for very long. Most of the res on emc are derelict and able to be force claimed within the week. There is plenty of space on every smp for you to find a large area to take over if you have the patience. I had 12 res near each other on smp7 during a pretty active time and it only took me two months to get the last res.
  3. I'm not sure if this has much to do with the current discussion but it does have to do with the topic of the thread. I was recently watching very carefully over a couple weeks which smp was the default smp. The smp that new players went to. I was doing this not related to this thread but because of a disease I was intent on inflicting players with. But while doing this there was a few observations I made and some data I collected. There was no connection to anything I can determine that the algorithm uses to determine the default smp. It is not based on open residences as I had anticipated it might be.

The default will rotate between 3-4 smps for an extended period before changing to a different 3-4. So it might go from 3 to 8 to 5 and then to 8 to 3 to 5, etc... before changing to 1 to 2 to 9 for instance. I was also not able to determine exactly why it stayed on one smp for the period of time it did but the amount did vary. Since I only play certain times of the day I only observed this at those times so my data set is based only on these times. Here is what will be the controversial part. The default spent more time on smp 7 and smp 3 then the others and spent the least time on smp 2 and smp 6. This I am certain of. Based on my, albeit, somewhat limited amount of data (although I did observe this approximately 30-40 hours) this is what I found:

Below is the smp and the percentage of time the default was on it:
    smp7 15-20%
    smp3 12-18%
    smp8 10-14%
    smp4 10-14%
    smp1 8-12%
    smp5 8-12%
    smp9 8-12%
    smp2 5-9%
    smp6 5-9%

I know the smp is not chosen randomly and it was not chosen based on the number of players on at any specific point in time either. If this is representative of where the default is overall it could help explain a few things. And I certainly encourage anyone to collect more data on this.

  4. All I know is i'd hate to see everything consolidated or copied and pasted.

  5. if 6 was altered, i would just quit tbh. i have builds all over the wild there and some complicated redstone in the town that would definately get broken if towns were merged

  7. Another reason is because you find afk players like Skeleboi, who we are currently taking to spawn

  9. When I was afk then I bet you might turn that into a comic Commander XD ;)
  10. XD, its already in the dialogue phase!

  11. Post it a little old, but I'll comment on it anyways.

If this were ever to happen, I think it should take place over a long period of time. Start by just removing the rotation to only a select few of the most popular servers. That way you won't have new players settling, and maybe combine it with not allowing claiming.

A major issue would be players with residence numbers like 4444, 5555, 4321, etc. that are easily branded in to memory and used for malls/shops/services. You can't really give them anything unless you move the digits to large 5 digit numbers.

I think it's just not viable at the present moment, if ever, because in reality no one wants to lose stuff or work, especially with giant farms.

  12. Yeah seems like that is the general consensus from everyone who responded to my devils advocate proposition. My main concern is getting back the numbers we used to have on EMC, if not even more than before. When someone joins emc and only sees like 2 people on a given server, I can't imagine that would really entice them to stay. Perhaps for now, just having eveyone show up in TAB might help, or what others have proposed, about combining some chats or making a global chat.

I think we could really get emc some more traffic if a few things were to change.....

  13. I hate to say it, but I feel it's more due to a drift not in the amount of Minecraft players, but the type. People just want a quick game, to get in and out, which is why the popularity of minigame servers is insane. People either don't have the time, or don't want to allocate time to something they may not always be able to contribute/work on.

  14. I don't enter the realms of smp1 or smp9 ever

    #Smp2IsMyHome

I have an old, old friend that pops on occasionally on smp3, so I sometimes visit there.

One of my alts live on smp4 I think :p

    I have a base on smp5 too

Smp7 is begging me to live there

    Smp8 used to be life...

Utopia is home to my Halloween event

    Well said.
I guess we do have a games server but it requires people to play it...

smp2's use is my wonderful existence

Sorry for joining the thread so late :p
