  1. And? The player can just advertise the shop section of the residence, if a customer finds the casino and heads there, its their own decision, and that is ok.

    Inconvenient yea, but thats life.
I mean, if you want convenience, I can change my numbers to a mutiple of three

  2. I'm gonna change my response to a "No".

The reason this thread was made was likely because there is a stigma against casinos in the real world. These casinos act similarly, in that people go there to have fun, and leave without any money at all. Bankruptcy is more problematic in real life than in EMC. In real life you can literally lose everything due to a casino, your money, your home, job, clothes. In EMC, it's not as drastic of an effect. If you fall victim to minecraft gambling, you can just get it all back in an hour, a day, or a week.

The whole issue is that the morality of casinos *in real life* is in question, because of their impacts. But the casinos are being called into question on EMC solely because they are casinos, and have a negative stigma.
  3. Keep in mind, Countries irl do stuff to stop it. In Canada there are many laws put in place so its hard to find a casino to start with, and then they are managed by one company everywhere. There are standards casinos in Canada have to follow with how much they make and the percent that they make has to go back into the community and all, so really does not seem like they are stealing all of it, as most likely your funds will be given to others.
  4. I don't think a regulation like that on EMC would be worth the moderation needed to upkeep it. It's difficult to control how a player spends his/her money on something as abstract as giving a percentage back to the community.

  5. casinos in a virtual world with virtual money that you have to teleport to to be on and can be banned from with a command arent comparable in any way to real world casinos.
anymore than killing a person in pvp is comparable to killing someone in real life.
you cant go negative, you cant bet your mortgage or car, you cant not be able to pay your bills, there is really no long term effects from losing everything in a casino, AND you could potentially get lucky and make a profit off of them.
once i actually open my casino i plan on the spawn having a link to gambling counciling as well as signs saying if you need move removed to message me. many thriving casinos already have this
  6. But can the addiction to gambling in the virtual world be just as compelling as in the real world? Yes, no one will starve to death but will it still cause significant sadness and grief? Maybe to the degree that some would leave the server? Me, I don't do it in either world. I just get tired of all the messages in chat, 'Come To My Casino!! Win a Diamond Voucher for Only 5 Rupees!! You Can Be A Winner Too!! Blah Blah Blah'.
neonkillah, ThaKloned and CliffCraft like this.
  7. objectively no. just as compelling as losing all your actual money? i think starvation, hypothermia, and potentially death are about as compelling as possible. And there have been studies and brain scans intensively focused on virtual grief and they had to do with games with actual real world implications. Eve Online's player economy is much more "real" than emc's, most of the markets value is based on in game playing time as shown in this article: https://www.engadget.com/2010/02/08/diagram-shows-real-world-cost-of-losing-ships-in-eve-online/

studies done with players of that game have shown while there is a loss and temporary grief normal grief brain scans are farrr different.
losing all your rupees just simply is not in any way comparable. give me a single case where any player that was going to stick around anyways has left permanently because of a casino? i doubt you could. the messages are annoying (as a casino owner they are annoying) but they are just as annoying as azoundria going around spamming shop adverts so i dont think an exception to the 3 hour rule needs to be made

  8. Sure, but I don't think most irl addicted gamblers are gonna freeze to death if they lose their money either. I don't know if you have ever had an addiction or compulsion like gambling but it can be very powerful and this game can be very real to many. Hey, I'm not saying get rid of them, just saying even losing all your rupees to many can be a very emotional experience. Heck, to be honest, it would be rather emotional to me.

  9. hypothermia isnt freezing to death, but many gamblers have lost their houses in winter and slept in their cars. i dont have a gambling addiction but i have made numerous trips to vegas and have seen what could happen, death is one of those things.
and sure its emotional, everything is though, if you buy something in game and realize you paid way too much the same emotions are likely triggered. if you get killed by making a stupid mistake and fall in lava carrying an sc of diamonds you likely feel the same thing. and im sure everyone in this thread has felt that feeling at some point over something, but minecraft is an infinite world with infinite resources literally at your fingertips, so you can make it back with just a little work. its not in any way as easy to come back from losing your house, car, and savings in real life people die from that or worse.
so is it the same or comparable to real world loss? no. objectively, scientifically, no.
and making comparisons to real life gambling and the effects thereof is senseless.

and the op/suggestion is very binary, its to ban or not to ban. seems like you arent saying they belong here so theres only one other option there
  10. the main point that i am saying is the Casinos = gambling = not family friendly
    ThaKloned likes this.
  11. what are you using as your baseline for family friendly? because emc is not G rated
  12. the beaseline is that casinos and gambling. im just going to state facts you have to be 21 to step foot in a casino anyway. and the fact that its basically online gambling which can turn into something more in the future for the individual perhaps lets just say gambling away pretty much everything and then having nothing its the same for this game. the gambling here can reflect and possibly put it someones mind to gamble in the real world. so that is my point. that it is not family friendly and that i should be removed from EMC
    ThaKloned and TuckerAmbr like this.
  13. gambling is pg according to the mpaa scale, meaning parental guidance, which emc and minecraft are also. if children are gambling without their parents permission they are violating the eula and the agreement you agreed to on these forums
  14. Isn't the mpaa scale about watching it in motion pictures? What does that possibly have to do with actually doing it?
    Tuqueque and CliffCraft like this.
  15. EMC is EMC I'm pretty sure we have 4-5 year olds, and we should integrate that group of players with a young live. I don't really know if there is any way to scale a society/community, but we must remain in harmony toward all minorities(which give a benefit to society, not hackers, those can go)
  16. Just thought I’d add something, isn’t there arcades where kids can put pennies into machines and it has a chance to push other pennies down nearer to the edge, so you can spend money and also get more or you could lose that money, kids have had access to that for years and they’re still allowed, gambling is in our everyday life now.

  18. You could gamble in a sonic game? I've never seen that before, interesting...
  19. I cannot think of why It'd be an issue... its just a game.
