  1. I think its too late to get them banned however i do feel they should have the same status as banks. Allowed but cannot advertise their services.
  2. I know most has been said already, but I want to bring out my own opinion.

Casino's always win in the long run, if you gamble, you are almost certainly going to lose money. This is no different in real life though, and I don't see those banned either.

It is a free choice to gamble or not, and you can rather learn from it with in-game currency than lets say real life.

Also, some people enjoy making casinos and running them, thats how they enjoy playing on emc. Banning them almost seems to me like banning overpriced shops because you let the players pay more rupees than the worth they get back. But these shops no-one complains about, and no-one should complain about them really...

    -1 for me.

  3. Casinos should also note a website for gambling help and addiction like back in 2013. They should also be verified by a SS Redstone expert to verify it's the odds they say. There should also be a certain time they are allow to run. Say when the owner is on it's open and closed when he is offline or only open during the week days and closed on the weekends to limit it from open all the time. They should also only be allowed a certain amount of each machine, say 4 slots and no more and 2 roulette etc. The owner should also tell the player if they are there too often to take a break more often.

Those are the rules I think should be added, as that way they stay open but are limited to an extent. Both sides happy.

  4. I agree they shouldn't be here. I'm surprised they are even allowed when this is claimed to be a family server. They have no place around kids or even those that cant stop. Gambling is very easily an addiction for some. Saying they aren't forced to gamble just shows some people don't understand what addiction is. And the excuse that this is just within the game is laughable. I'm sure that these games are not easy to make but it doesn't change the fact that most games are meant to pull in large amounts of money and return very little. Ya its just in the game of minecraft but happens if that's not enough for some and leads to outside vices.

I'm sure nothing will be done and this is just my opinion. I'm not concerned if it's a popular or unpopular one. I stand by it 100%.
  5. https://empireminecraft.com/wiki/gaming-gambling-regulations/
From the rules: Any game that charges for participation must be validated by staff and added to the Wiki list of Approved Player Games.

It's also recommended that you get approval for free games especially those that take skill such as parkour.

We currently have a number of very competent staff that approve the redstone games. If they are unsure they confer with the others. For parkour and other games that require skill we need to see it is possible and it can be approved.
  6. Yes, but I am saying a redstone expert staff not any as how does someone who does not know redstone know its not scamming or the odds they say they are. That's why I listed it being redstone expert staff and even more if SS could do it so then its a higher rank and requires a bigger process.

I know many instances where a machine was approved but turns out they where not approved by redstone experts and where machines that where scamming saying its a 95% odds when it was a 4% odds.
  7. To add to this, maybe random staff inspections to verify a machine to make sure it was not altered after it was approved and all.

  8. Thank you to everyone who has posted on this thread so far. I'd like to go ahead and officially state a staff decision regarding these casinos on EMC, as well as the reasoning behind the decision.

The current rules do cover a lot of what the community has expressed worries about.

I believe one of the issues regarding the approval of casino games, and the subsequent running of them, originates from the assumptions of how staff handle the verification. So to make it completely clear, here is a unclassified excerpt from the super secret staff guide:
I understand that quite a few of you have the opinion that gambling is not 'family friendly'. If you look at many family friendly games available to the public, you will note that the idea of casinos is rather prevalent in all sorts of games, that are still very family friendly. On EMC, The player is not forced to participate and they are informed that they are not guaranteed to win. If a player feels the need to gamble away their rupees, they can never go negative. In fact, just a few days of voting and their rupees are back in their pockets to be spent on whatever THEY want to.

We are allowing casinos to continue their presence on EMC. This is not because we want players to learn the faults of gambling when it isn't real money. This is because we completely promote a PLAY YOUR WAY frame of mind, and casinos are just like big mega-malls were in 2012. They are the newest way to make money on EMC, if you feel like taking the time to make one. And just like a big mega-mall, you could choose to simply not give them any money if you didn't want to. That is your decision to play the game your way.

We believe that the current regulations are stringent enough that we do not need to make any changes at this time. If you ever assume that someone has changed their machine after a staff members approved it, or is running a game in an incorrect manner, then please /report it to a staff member. We do re-evaluate games upon request and the casino owners are well-informed of the risks to everything they own if they are not wise and try to scam players this way.
Once again, thanks for your input. I understand that this is a very divided issue and I want to help you all to understand that we don't take the moderation of these casinos lightly.

  10. Does any of this mean they can't constantly put those huge advertisements in the chat? It feels like it's incessant and unlike if someone is selling something that they run out of, casinos never run out of anything. It's really annoying.
  11. It means that the 3 hour rule applies. As the event is a market related item as well, it should be Market chat. Those guidelines need a minor wording update since they were made before Economy chat was a thing even.

Edit: Updated in official guidelines page.
  12. @Krysyy
What if a player who owns a casino is not able to payup for a winnings? I head that many run out of funds and cant pay up. Maybe something put in place for that.
Also maybe a rule to add a gambling help site on all machines, as it was when casinos first came out.
  13. If you can’t pay for the winnings you shouldn’t own a casino, but if it a really high amount and you KNOW no has played it, close it off as the casino owner
  14. From my post:
    • Any prize offered must be available and able to be proven to staff prior to the event's start if requested.
As for the second bit, we felt that it was a little overkill and that's why it was removed. Anything can be an addiction, even playing Minecraft. There's no need to add more than the reminder that they are not guaranteed to win.
  15. That's more event it seems as casinos are open all the time. Maybe a rule that state to stock it to only run for the amount payable you can do? Like a shutoff for once you run out like the way a shop can take your funds for when its out of stock?
  16. It applies to all games, whether they are in a casino, or not.
It's up to the player in find a way to prevent breaking the rule.
  17. So I disagree with banning them but I am going to put in a thought on casinos that may be able to be added to player settings... Could a new option be added to settings to be able to deactivate the ability for an account to enter a casino grounds?

Basically all casinos would get approval and a flag as a casino.
PS settings would allow me to set casino use to No if I prefer.

Parts of this thread are interesting but way off the initial topic of to remove or not to remove casinos from the landscape of EMC. I -1 it as I believe in choice, self control and cretivity. I do love that such hard redstone designs can be built even though there may be other options to show it than casinos.
  18. Often a casino is on the same grounds as a shop, etc. You will just need to use your personal self-control to not venture into one.
  19. I think advertising rules for casinos should be changed. Like instead of 3 hours it could be 4 or 5 per ad.

You might say the shop and casinos should be considered equal, but i think this is one of those situatuons where society doesn’t agree with them, but they still allow it(kind of like banking systems here
  20. Like Krysyy said... most casinos are on the same residences as shops. You can be advertising your shop and your casino at the same time and a new limit would make it inconvenient for those who advertise
