Should there be a limit on Derelict Protection?

  1. Do you mean rather than 9 servers plus Utopia, just have one server with one town?

I don't disagree with this; the only issue is regarding some of the prime locations around town as these where paid for via auctions by staff. Apart from that it's really weather Owner/Admin/SS would be willing to reboot EMC by making such harsh changes.

I do see the benefits though; all existing residence owners could be relocated via copy past and given exclusive plots around the new town. Although copy, paste does break some items signs etc.

Town's portals could be adjusted to access wild, waste, nether and end etc, via /smp6 wild N, S, E, or W etc, these would take you to those worlds and reduce server resources supporting empty plots on all 9 servers. It would also increase interactions between players and businesses.

Worlds such as waste could also be reduced and made bigger to serve the new set up, reduce server resources and SS time when updating and maybe increase the number of updates to monthly or by (every other month) monthly.

Very old residencies with cool structures could be added to an EMC park, which could be visited by players for inspiration, maybe used as a landing zone or the new town spawn location.

The upside, this could be done to include the new world dept and hight, if possible, each player could be given perms to cut and paste their own residences to the new locations in the new town saving SS time. Re-fixing things like signs would be your responsibility.

There could be a cross over period where you get to access to a new plot or plots and time to transfer your builds to the new town. It really comes down to how much time SS are prepared to do and if they see a need to do this. I am sure there are many other options which could be considered.

  2. Nope. Just a world that works as a plaza that the town residence is. Similar to /shop.

  3. even though i have sold tons of em, i really dislike it from the side of of a semi-active player.... then again i have perm dereliction on most of my accounts and i really like it too from that pov :p

  4. I do want to note that, in the event staff decides changes need to be made to the permanent derelict protection system, those changes would likely only apply going forward.

We likely will not be applying those changes retroactively for the same reason we won't be resetting the entire frontier. As jaqque said - a promise is a promise.
  5. This is in fact not allowed. It's covered in the second part of rule 6 (do not participate in RMT transactions). The specific case of residence transfers isn't mentioned, but is clearly included, especially if you read what is allowed.

  6. There is a reason I like EMC: The staff are willing to listen to players, but also keep a promise.

Another work for a promise is a guarantee: Your friend can promise to have your back in a fight; your bank can promise not to give out your account details; fiat currencies work on a guarantee (that everyone will recognize it at face value).
To renege on a promise is like a very dangerous thing to do: not in the monetary sense as games are intangible and so are the services provided; more in that it can result in a loss of trust.

There are game developers that fail at their promises (and Pokemon reprinted that set which lost them HUGE trust from the base, and prob cost them millions in future sets). On the opposite side you look at MTGs reserve list (a 25yr+ promise).

As for 'prime locations' I think that is a very minor argument. I may have only been on EMC for a year but I'm going to be honest: I almost never go to spawn in town on any SMP. Teleporting makes the argument a bit odd.

    Archival Solution:
Should an issue arise in coming years for EMC with regards to available plots etc, they can
    A) Just expand the size of the town worlds.
    and/or
    B) Set up a threshold (say 5yrs w/o no account activity OR Sales activity) and when a res (with perm protect) passes over that threshold they get moved to an 'archival' town. One that is going to be purely static because maybe they don't have a shop, or no wallet balance for sell orders, or just pure out of stock of supplies. Should the person log back on ever then they can get their res moved back to a regular SMP for a small fee (10k?).

Again. I don't see an issue with it. I think after the update nerfing the XP farms tps has been noticeably better. I'm not an expert on server effects of static res (those with just non-restone blocks, so no farms/machines), but I'm willing to guess they don't affect the server all too much. So the number of people displeased w/ being unable to claim a spawn res vs. the number of active players is minor.

Going forward who can say. The price for a perm protect voucher seems very agreeable: it takes either a decent amount if $ or a TON of in-game effort to gather the rups to buy one from a shop. Either way, it is a milestone that is earned, and a reassurance factor that real time/effort isn't going to get nuked by a reset. You can make rups back but you don't get time back, so I see it as an important part of the town structure.

  7. Your last point hits the hardest with me, it takes quite an amount of in-game money to get a permanent voucher. Honestly, I do not see why we need to start voiding people's protection, especially since there's a lot of derelict plots currently up for grabs. :)

  8. permanent derelict protection shouldn't have been a thing in the first place, but now it is. EMC shouldn't limit after it was already introduced.

  10. I was trying to scour forums to see if there was a work around and the only "legal" bit of standing for this suggestion would be this:
I am assuming the perks are the supporter ranks and perm-derelict protections but I can be wrong. If you add a special rule to a perk, especially as expensive as this perk is, the credibility and desire to purchase a hefty note would be lost since the description did entail "Permanent Derelict". Not, "Permanent Derelict: Special restrictions apply, please read below. "

I am only going to say no due to the ramifications of those who had the thought they would not lose any residences from buying this perk. If this suggestion was brought when perm- derelict vouchers were introduced, I would think the 1,200 day rule would have been more than fair for spawn residences, however that time has way past.
