  1. *-=Welcome to the Official 16661 Horse Market Thread=-*

    What do we sell?
The Horse Market (located @ 16661, SMP8) sells a wide variety of items including but not restricted to horses, donkeys, mules, armor, saddles, wheat, name tags and leashes.

Why should you buy a horse/donkey/mule?
Horses, Donkeys and Mules are not obsolete in the EMC community, with various player-run horse racing and barrel racing tracks around servers and not to mention that horses are at least 3x faster than a minecart and they don't break (unless you burn them in lava, fall, drown.. 16661 doesn't provide any warranties), you can take them where ever you like using the /stable feature! They are great companions especially if you're one to be in the wastelands or wilderness a lot. They can save much travel time, you can show off your four legged companion to your friends and compete in your own races! Many recent projects have been started by players to boost the market, creating many more activities for you, your horse and your friends to compete in!

    They make great gifts!
Unsure of what to get your friend for their birthday? For Christmas? (It's right around the corner!) Or perhaps for an achievement on EMC? These make perfect gifts for your friends that they will adore and love.

  2. F . A . Q .

What do Stats mean? Why are they important?
This is a question I get asked quite frequently. Now, horses, donkeys and mules have three stat types: Speed, Jump and HP (Health).

Speed is how fast the horse can travel. For example, a horse that has a speed of 47 is incredibly slow (and is also the slowest horse discovered on EMC) but a horse with a speed of 139 (The highest speed possible on EMC) is incredibly fast. Horses above 130 are generally most sought after especially among breeders and horses under the speed of 60 are generally a novelty, but horses between 60-130 you can find pretty cheaply in many junk bins for around 10r-50r each. The reason why speed, especially those with a speed of or over 130, in horses are so sought after by breeders is due to many considering it to be the most dominant and important stat above others. While all stats are important to consider, a horse with high speeds are able to travel quickly and many enjoy using them to compete in player-run races or to show off to friends.

The jump stat determines how high the horse can jump. The lowest jump known of is around 41, and the highest is above 100 thanks to the introduction of various promotional horses. A horse with 41-43 jump can jump only one block, while a horse with a Jump stat of 100 or over could jump at least 4-5 blocks.
If you travel a lot in the wilderness or waste I highly recommend a horse with a higher jump stat.

The health stat determines how much damage the horse can take, so a horse with 15 HP (lowest naturally occuring) can't take much damage while a horse with over 30 HP can handle more damage. A horse with a health stat of between 20-25 is considered average. If you're travelling around hilly terrain or battling with a mob, you should consider looking into a horse with a higher health stat.

Why are some horse colo(u)r variations more common than others?
White and Creamy horses tend to be the most common and hence the cheaper types of horses in terms of speed. This is because when EMC was still young the highest speed horses found were white and creamy, and all of our high speed horses now are white and creamy as they are decedents of those original high speed horses. However when looking at slower horses or horses with lower jump and HP many of them are brown and dark brown because again, the slowest horses on EMC are brown and dark brown. Through selective breeding, and sometimes a "mutation" (when a foal comes out a different colo(u)r than it's parents, not all that uncommon), breeders have been able to achieve high speed horses of colo(u)r variations other than the normal white and creamy, but they are generally more sought after and expensive for this reason.

Are there any public breeding facilities I can use?
There's many player-owned stables that are open to the public around EMC, you've just got to ask around! However the most well-known public breeding facilities are as follows:

-MrAdazahi, Public Breeding Facility @ /v +breed UTOPIA*
    -MarkelleFultz, Public Breeding Facility @ /v 6303 SMP3

If you have, or know someone else who has a breeding stable open to the public, please let me know so I can add it to the list!

*Unfortunately, /v +breed has officially closed to the public and is now a private breeding group after merging with the co-op. More information on the recent changes can be found here.

Why do prices for your horses constantly change?
Like any store, prices tend to fluctuate such as the price of diamonds and supporter vouchers. Prices for horses, like many other items, mostly depend on the overall demand and current stock. To put this in example: If there's a lot of demand for a 134 speed horse horse but not any in stock, the price is going to be quite expensive compared to what it would be if there wasn't much demand for it and there was plenty in stock. Although this is different for Donkeys, as they are very much a new and tested in the breeding community and for the most part, the market for them is still being established. With this being said, their prices, as with Mules, tend to stay the same and fluctuate little to none.

Your shop is out of stock! Who else could I visit for the items that I want?
There are many breeders on EMC that have stores. Sometimes it might help to talk to the supplying breeder, as they might be able to put you on their priority list for that item you want. Please keep in mind that breeders cannot control the amount of time it takes to breed a certain horse. However, the most popular and regularly maintained stores that I recommend are the following:

    -Starsphere, sells: Donkeys @ /v 17888 SMP8
    -SeflYT, sells: Mules and Supplies @ /v 18398 SMP9
    -MrsWishes, sells: Horses @ /v 11161 SMP5
-PhoenixAffinity, sells: Horses, Donkeys and Supplies @ /v 10285 SMP5

If you have a store that sells either Horses, Donkeys or Mules and is regularly stocked, PM me with your residence address so I can add it to the list!

I visited a shop and horses of the same speed are priced differently to yours. Why is this?
Horse prices between shops can sometimes differ, just like with any other item. With horses, prices may indicate a quality difference. As the speed stat increases and becomes more uncommon//harder to obtain, prices at stores become more individualized and tailored towards the specific horse that is being sold.

To help put this into perspective: one person may price a 134 speed horse at 400k while another player is selling another 134 but only for 250k. However, the 134 being priced at 400k might be closer to being a 135, it might also have a jump closer to 80, and a HP stat around the mid-20s. For the purpose of this example, let's assume this horse is a white none, 134.98% speed, 78.58% jump, 22.47 HP. The horse being sold for 250k might only just be classified as a 134, it might have a jump of around 65-70, and a health stat below 20. Let's assume this horse is a white whitefield, 134.04% speed, 69.87% jump, 19.73 HP. This would indicate why this particular horse has a lower price tag compared to the 134.98. It depends on the preference of the buyer, what is and isn't affordable, and their reason for the purchase among other reasons. Breeders may aim closer towards the 400k horse, while players who intend to use the horse for leisurely purposes may lean to the 250k horse.

Pattern variation of the horse may also have an impact on the worth depending on the particular audience. For example, the whitefield pattern is quite common and therefore less sought after while a horse with no pattern variation is uncommon and may catch the attention of specialist breeders and/or horse collectors and players who intend to have that horse put on display. However, this is not a major factor in determining the worth of a horse.

    Can I become a breeder?
Of course you can! Anyone can become a breeder. However be aware that it is a very difficult industry to get into. Many breeders have been here for a very long time and are well-established within the community, and some of them can be quite competitive, however don't let that deter you. There has been groups of breeders popping up around servers that help each other breed horses, groups such as the co-op which can tend to be much harder to get into although there are also public breeding stables open such as /v 6303 on SMP3 which is a great place for you to begin your journey! Also be sure to keep in mind that being a breeder takes great patience as it can be quite tedious work. It can sometimes take a while before you see any real results. But once you start seeing results, that's where the fun begins!

    Dear aspiring breeders,
Please do not compete with the store by lowering your prices of horses, donkeys and mules. The prices presented at 16661 are the universal standard prices and by lowering them you lower the overall value of the items therefore making them not worth as much anymore. Prices have already decreased enormously over the years and to prevent any further decline we ask you to stick to the standard prices for your benefit and for ours. Thank you! :3

    Why promote other breeders?
It's not all about competition :) It's always nice to show respect for other people!
