Optifine in 1.15.2 – How to get it working. Vanilla Launcher (With or without Fabric) & MultiMC

  1. Whello there everyone.
I have seen confusion about the possibility to install optifine in Minecraft 1.15.5. An official version is jet to be released, but that does not make it impossible to make optifine working for this Minecraft version. As long as you’re fine with a few minor bugs, it’s all good.

In case you don’t know: Optifine is a (EMC – approved) Minecraft mod, that changes some things about the rendering engine. That is to say: If you have a potato PC, you will be able to boost your fps with it. If you have a good PC, you will be able to improve the way the game looks even further, whilst usually still getting a small performance benefit.

    Vanilla Minecraft installation

This hasn’t changed since 1.12.2, apart from the fact that you have to find the right optifine version, which I already did for you.
    First download optifine here: https://puu.sh/FlfFE/a571d1e1f1.jar
This is a “preview” which is the same as a snapshot. It’s not a full release, but I am jet to have significant problems with this version.

After this, place optifine in the “mods” folder in your .minecraft folder. If you cannot find that folder, look up where it is on google. It depends on your operating system (windows, IOS (apple,) or Linux)
Now double click the “.jar” optifine file, and execute it, and tell it to create a new profile.
When you next start up the Minecraft launcher, there will be an “Optifine 1.15.2” profile you can select. Select it, and press play.
    You now have optifine running.

    MultiMC installation

Install paper on MultiMC, by creating a new 1.15.2 instance, selecting “edit instance” end then, under versions, click “install fabric.” Once this is done, place these two files in the ‘mods” folder of that instance:
    https://puu.sh/FlfZX/be666898ea.zip
One of these is the optifine mod, the other is a mod that is able to load the optifine mod as if it were a fabric mod.
This works in combination with all other 1.15.2 mods that I tested. You’re really just “adding” optifine to your mods list.
    You now have Optifine running.

    Fabric installation with Vanilla launcher

Why aren’t you using MultiMC? Go use MultiMC, It’s better.

Anyway, copy these two files to your mods fodler: (I assume you already know where to find it if you have paper already running)

    I hope that helped :)
