How about you and I experiment with the current system a bit, Duck? Maybe we'll find a way to make it look good with what we already have?
I would love to see a commercial zone for convenient buying and selling. Warping around a bunch of residences to check prices/availability is time consuming, dull, and takes away from the best part of minecraft - walking around our player developed universe. A market that has a bunch of players walking around and talking, checking out the stores - it just seems so much more immersive and interactive than tp-ing to a bunch of different people's plots. As for the pricing - let the market sort it all out. People should buy and sell for whatever prices they want. Some stores won't be able to keep up with demand if they sell too low, and they'll lose their customers to a well-stocked store with perhaps higher prices. As far as economics go, markets do work on their own.
i think you could limit everyone to a one item booth in a market place, while keeping their larger store in their homes, this would force ppl to specialize in the rarer items, and limit undercutting
I have thought of this in the past, and it is a good idea. As for everyone undercutting each other, that is like saying there are two stores in real life that are side by side, sell the same items, but they would not be constantly undercutting each other. They would sell for the amount they think reasonable considering the amount of time it took to get the stock, and how much they have at a time. In this, I think we can trust in people natural greed for money to keep people from constantly undercutting each other. But this is just my opinion.
But that wont work because that would mean you could sell unlimited stuff :/ but I do know what you mean.
Or maybe (i am talking about the chest problem) Check this screenshot out the sign would be where the shop is and the chest can be behind a wall as shown so it would be just signs they could see but i can also see that it would require thicker walls but it would hide the chests http://imgur.com/uwAwS
Wow, i actually really support this idea! As a shopkeeper i think it would be great to have something like this, maybe justin could open a new server that is just an isle of shops? A suggestion.
I don't think a new server would work, because you would need to use the vault to get the items you buy back to your plot, which costs 20r. And people may not have 20r after going to the market if they buy a lot of stuff.
No it could work like Showcase and you put the blocks in something special maybe we could even use someting like The vault as an invisible chest
Well the way i was thinking was that the way i showed it would work with a chest keeping the burden easy on justin(not much new coding) and on the server because imagine if the server had to keep track of not 60 vaults but 300? It would make the serve more laggy
I like the idea, but has some flaws. First off, if ONE person sells something for cheaper, everybody flocks to it. This will result in it being sold out. Then only now can the higher priced merchants sell their good. This results in either, and this happens IRL too, they are forced to mark down price, or go out of business. This severely hurts the economy, as some merchants, well most, CAN'T compete with super low prices, and turn to other ways to getting cash. This may result in only a selective amount of people selling things. So the. They can charge MORE for theirs goods as there is no compiting with others. However, that is only one scenario. It could also make selling easier, but to see what will happen, you have to test it out. However, not my downer proposal, since you can compare prices, it will be more real, and work on the principal of supply and demand, not just pure prices.
I thank you for your great point adam, and i do see now about how it could potencially effect the ecomony. Fortunatly for me i can compete with low prices, one of the things i do sell really well is nether warts, and this also gets sales on my other items.
This is a great idea... Perhaps it could tie into the Supporter schemes? ie: Better spots available for supporters (Like right next to Marketplace entrance, etc)
No. Supporters already dominate us free members in every way. I don't want this gap to become bigger.
I disagree. Up until today I was a regular member, I only became a supporter to hide from the map when working on private projects. The point of Minecraft is that you don't need money. What exactly is so out of your reach as a regular member that you can't just get yourself or earn?
I am saying that supporters don't need anything more to make them better than us. I know, they donate, but that shouldn't mean they can own us in EVERY WAY. So no, there is NO point whatsoever to add to us being almost obselete. If you think about it, almost ALL LARGELY successful shops are owned by supporters. Why? Since they get more rupees a day, they can afford lower prices. So no, the gap shouldn't be widened. My position may be somewhat biased, but this is how I feel. Since you are a supporter, you are biased as well. So is everybody on server. Now, that let some MINOR anger pour out. Maybe I can take my daily nap now?
Well, we CAN but you guys have it WAY easier, and sometimes, you make it HARDER. Like always selling me out on iron.....
You're exaggerating. And there is a point, it's to create a system that best sustains the servers and their future upgrades. That might mean adding smaller, less meaningful perks to Iron accounts to get people to make that leap. Also, it's hardly fair to call me biased, I've been a supporter for about 3 hours. Also, by your standard, you're biased because you're *not* a supporter. I'm not saying you are, but pointing out your logic.
