[EVENT] The Ice Witch's Cursed Jungle - Winter 2025

Discussion in 'Empire Events' started by MoreMoople, Dec 24, 2025.

  1. I have enjoyed the event a ton. My only issue stems from my horrible skill at parkour. I can manage most stuff, and got some advice for a spot as well, but jumping around a pillar is way beyond my skill set. Any chance of maybe making a shortcut that uses that and then a longer route that doesn't? Still has the parkour element, but gives folks that suck at it (like me) another option to reach the chest. Is that something that sounds reasonable and still keeps the original parkour element in the events? I still haven't found all of the chests yet, but I will keep checking back when time permits to try my luck some more. I do like the idea of there being some sort of hint system for finding the chests that can be released a week or so after the start. Using the spoilers things to hide those hints is a great idea. This would allow folks that want to do the event without help the option of not looking at the spoilers and those that do, could then view the hint(s).

Over all, I have enjoyed the event and loved how creative everything looked. Looking forward to the next event you all put on.
  2. I've stumbled across Best Boi in a few events now and, being relatively new to EMC, I would love to know the lore behind it.

  5. Feedback:

This event, as always, is well done. The build is very interesting with many areas to explore and there are plenty of ideas to inspire. I really enjoy the aurora.

I haven't found all of the chests, I think I'm at 11 and that doesn't bother me because there isn't a grand prize at the end that I will miss out on. I don't know if this event provides "better" items from the challenging chests but I hope not since I have no way of getting to those chests. A completely random chance of "better" items from all chests is a great approach. The items you selected as gifts are great, from common items to a Heart of the Sea. I'll keep poking around each day so I'm sure I'll find more. I can't do parkour so a few chests will just be out of reach.

If there was a grand prize at the end of the challenge I would ask for an easy route be added along side medium and difficult routes just as one of the previous events had. That was very thoughtful of the build team to have that option.

The maze might be a little too long, if you don't mind me saying. I found my way to the third floor after many attempts but never found a chest up there. I spent a long long time getting there and exploring then just had to bail out. Mazes are fun but I can't handle exceptionally long mazes.

  6. Thanks so much for putting all this together!

I've been chatting with a lot of players over the past few days and so I've seen a wide mix of players reactions, from those who are really struggling to even find a small number of chests and were frustrated to those who easily did most of the chests all by themselves. So, in general, it's both too hard (not enough really easy chests) and too easy (even the hardest chests have been solved).

I think the right approach could be to have even more chests than just 25. You can place more easy ones, for less skilled players to help keep them engaged. And then you can think of ways to make some of them even harder for the more experienced players. For example, you could have chests which require:
Certain redstone puzzles to be solved, which could be more complex.
Two or more players to work together to access. For example, have to have players standing on 2 pressure plates to open a gate to access it.
Chests with more twists or unexpected surprises.
Perhaps a secret realm where only a chest or two are, which is hard to access.
Maybe a large area of trapped chests and only one is a real chest.
Chests that require inside knowledge, ie things that EMC veterans would know, to encourage discussion.
Chests that function similar to an escape room with multiple stages/puzzles to be unlocked.

There was some disappointment at finding and traversing easter eggs but no chest there, which could be solved with more chests.

There was common dislike of the parkour components as many players aren't good at it, so I believe that having an alternate challenge for any parkour events would be well warranted.

In terms of the loot, of course it's rather basic, which plays a role in the motivation for many players. Having a rare chance of something like an ore buster (maybe 1/27 in one of the chests) could give more motivation, and help with a certain segment of players who just don't feel the event is itself worth it at all. I can remember back when ore buster was in the event, and I don't think anyone skipped it back then for sure. But of course I also remember it was too easy to get the ore buster, so it needs to be hard and rare as well.

Another idea is to have some unique promotion items, which are not the established ones, that are unique to the chest finding event. These could only be gotten from the chest event.

I personally preferred the 15 out of 25 chest limit, but I believe that almost everyone else prefers to be able to grab all the chests.

One interesting idea that I thought of was to have chests that appear or get added after a certain time period. This can keep engagement for longer. For example, you could do 12 chests of Christmas, where a new chest appears each day and players can all try to find where it is. I don't know the challenge of doing something like this technically.

One player had a really interesting suggestion to have a flying version of the event, where players could fly around. I think that would be a useful theme/idea for one of the years.

Thanks again for a great event once again this year.

  7. I love the events and really appreciate the build team's efforts.

Alternative/easy versions of parkour would be useful - consider it an accessibility accommodation.

I also find dark maps quite difficult so would like to be able to drink vision potions.

(I did try and bypass the pillar parkour and almost managed it, but not quite!)

I remember there was discussion in the past about creating a world with access to all the old builds - I'd still like that - it would be a real walk down memory lane! :D

  8. To whomever did that parkour

as said in chat, there better be a dragon egg in that chest

the most frustrating thing is the amount of time it eats just to get back to the actual parkour

  9. past years had this.
I suspect that this year they decided not to because all 25 chests are claimable.

I'm quite torn on the point :/

The build and all the details are fantastic as usual, but boy I'm hating that parkour
  10. I was thinking more and it would be super useful if each chest had a unique name or number (1-25) which went in the chat along with the loot when you claimed it.

ie Claimed chest 23 and received 32 waxed copper blocks.

That would give a full record of chest and loot, so it would be easy to share or analyze by reviewing the log file. The data isn't permanently lost if you didn't track it at the time. You also don't need to necessarily provide chest locations to communicate on which chest gave what. It's also easy to avoid accidental duplicates if a chest was recorded twice with slightly different coordinates, or missing chests as duplicates if they are close together.

I don't think there's any downside to the standard player experience, only upsides to those who want to be more analytical or work together. (And many players have been doing both since the chest event started.) No idea how complex it is to name the chests from the backend and output that name when you claim them.

A possible extension of this idea is to have a hint for each chest, and if you are struggling in the event (maybe didn't find a chests in 20-30 minutes), or haven't been to the event in some time, you can be given one of those hints for a chest you didn't claim yet. That's probably quite a bit more complex.

  11. If anyone wants to practice the difficult parkour for getting on Santa's head, Fred & I set up a mini practice course on my res
  12. got my last chest. same loot as other 2 chests. quite disappointed given the effort required :(

  14. I don't want to be negative, the build and the eye for details, the easter eggs and the decorations are fantastic.

on the chest hunt side, I understand there's a fine balance to strike, you don't want to lock out players that can't do parkour from getting a nice reward, but also you want to give chests that are harder to find a better reward.

I would put easter eggs behind parkour, not chests.

  16. as you say, its a fine balance,
I know its not for everyone, which is why only 1 is behind parkour that has some actual challenge to it, in addition to it not having any unique rewards behind it.

ultimately it comes down to a couple things:

one is having a "stretch goal", something that, if you don't get it the first time you visit, maybe you come back later to give it another go, the whole thing is 5 jumps, with 2 being fairly standard. I was overjoyed to see you all built a practice spot for this, thats the exact kind of working together and strategizing I was hoping to see. I really hope this ends up being something people can fondly look back on in a sort of "hey remember that chest on the santa statue we spent an hour getting onto? I think we still have the practice spot on my res somewhere"

another thing is giving players with different focuses something to enjoy/general diversity, this year we had a dropper, maze and some small amounts of parkour tossed in, 20 of the 25 are accessible without them, but they are there if you enjoy them, or are determined to find all 25.

and finally the rewards, I did *most* of the creation of the loottables with some small changes from staff, which was my first time doing these, and I did make a couple mistakes, the main one being the prizes in the chests that are the most difficult to find excluding the ones behind little challenges are a little underwhelming, the main thing that caused this was that in past years, I noticed that once the best chests were found there was zero challenge in bringing an army of alts to that best chest, however it appears I may have over corrected a bit to much on this.

I hope this gives you all some clarity on why some thing were made they way they are :) and again thank you for all the feedback!

Happy 7th day of Christmas :D Here are the coords for all of the chests. The items are what LokiQueen and I received. :)

I recommend trying to find the chests first before viewing this, for those who have not found everything :)
