The EMC birthday event part 1 report Pictures courtesy of both AyanamiKun and myself. So around 11:40am EMC time it was finally happening; the announcement went out that we could expect something to happen on Utopia and leave up to our community: quickly a crowd gathered on the town square (/spawn) to chat, goof, joke and anticipate what was about to come. And here it already became clear that this was going to be an awesome event. Because the event spirit was already there, but more about that later. And just when tension rose (was Krysyy online or wasn't she? We could hear her but not see her, did she turn into a ghost? ) the final word came out: we could all gather on /v bday1 for the first part of the event. And what an event it was! Thinking back I should have hit tab (or use /who) and F2 (to give you guys an impression on how packed the server was!) but unfortunately I forgot all about that. I'll try to remember next time, but in the mean time I think we hit well over 100 players during this event (but I could be mistaken!). Setting first foot on the birthday area So when we first entered we started looking around. We were in some kind of glass covered area which had a hole in the wall. So soon enough players started to spread around and we discovered that the side of the area was covered with cakes and candles on top of them. And beneath each candle was a mysterious chest. What could this be all about? We discovered a hole and quickly spread around.... Notice the cakes near the edges, and the red candles on top. And this is just another example why I think this was brilliantly done. Because us players more or less beat the staff to the punch: a lot of us had already climbed those candles. Either out of curiosity, or... to get a better look at the happenings in the middle. Brilliant! Because that was exactly the whole idea to begin with. And those chests you wonder? Simple: everyone won a prize! We were asked to dance and enjoy and while Krysyy was checking the slick dance moves of all the players (and dropping extra presents on those uber cool dudes & dudettes who mastered the moves) the rest of the Senior Staff started working: everyone got their own access sign so that they could get their prize, how cool is that? But... a small side tour you guys.... I know some of you value prizes and maybe come to these events in hopes to get prizes. But honestly... That's not what this is about you guys. This was about celebrating the fact that the Empire Minecraft server has been with us for five whole years. Sure, goodies are fun but this was about sharing and caring, not so much goodies (in my opinion!). Why I say this? Notice the cake in my inventory? That was (I believe) Lil_Spartan_Cat who tossed those at other players while we were at spawn. And that was only the beginning.... THAT is what this event was all about to me: having fun together and trying to let others have some extra fun too. More later Because there were so many players Krysyy also started placing access signs! What prizes we got? That heavily varied but each of us got a birthday cake and a Krysyy autograph. And more... But I'm getting ahead of myself again "Into the middle everyone!", Krysyy said when we all had our prizes (not a literal quote but.. you get the idea). The tension was rising, what were we going to do? Was this going to be a drop party or... Quick selfie with Superi0n, AyanamiKun, JasperChestnut & myself None of all that: this was going to be firefloor without the fire, which would also reduce the lag. So basically a dropping floor. Blocks would randomly disappear and then it was up to the players to try and keep standing for the longest time. First round: iron blocks. And THIS is where things really started to get going. Because as we dropped down onto the floor while some players wondered how to get out (Krysyy did tell us to use /v bday1 again, but I think hardly anyone listened (or could listen, chat was jam packed!)) there were several who started to share the fun. Meaning so much as soon there were all sorts of goodies being thrown around by players for others players! And not one time, not two times... Oh boy... Behold: the pit of doom (or wealthyness )! After the first round the floor was replaced with gold blocks and we were at it again. And here more sillyness started. Players started throwing experience bottles around (either throwing them at other players or breaking & sharing the XP with other players), players started throwing diamonds, emeralds, heads, I don't know what but lots of stuff got thrown around. I've seen players (other than my friends mind you) who were standing on a single block and immediately started throwing stuff down onto the floor below (where most players were) to mimick some kind of drop party. But we weren't done yet. Oh no... Next floor? Ice! Ice floor, better keep your skates in check And it wasn't over yet More diamonds, XP bottles, emeralds, obsidian, glowstone... I've seen all sorts of blocks slide across the ice ready to be picked up by other players. For the record: I knew about the obsidian & redstone ore blocks during this round, but the rest was just as much a surprise for me as well! And that my friends really made this event for me. Players sharing stuff with other players to, well, share the whole thing together. That was awesome! The last rounds of "falling floor" were slimeblocks (bouncy!), green glass panes (really tricky) and finally barrier blocks (these are invisible, so you had no idea what you were doing!). Well, and for those of us who still ended up a bit disappointed because they didn't win (I even noticed someone picking up a nether star): I didn't really win either and to make matters even worse I also managed to lose dramatically to Aya Out of all the rounds we played (I had to skip the last ones) Aya managed to beat me 3 to 1 (so: I fell down first). That can't be right! And to finish, after all the madness was over Krysyy held an EMC trivia round where players could answer 10 questions about EMC in order to win cool prizes. Questions varied between the limit of armor stands which you can have on your residence, the date where Krysyy & Moose got married, at which streak level you got a voters bow and the one we all loved: what is the price for 6 bedrock removals + 3 structure moves without supporter? And there you have it! This was an awesome event, I had a great time and I hope you guys had a lot of fun as well. I want to thank the staff again for all the hard work and effort they put into this and I also want to thank the 4 players (there were more, but I saw 4 players myself actually doing this) for sharing all those goodies with the community. Even a simple block of glowstone can make some ones day because it was totally unexpected and a really fun & friendly gesture. This was truly a worthy Empire Minecraft birthday event in my book! I can't wait for the next part, see you guys there!
