Empires Question re: protocol

Discussion in 'Frontier and Player Outposts' started by KatydidBuild, Feb 16, 2026.

  1. I reported trespassing on a Claimed Outpost and broken naturally generated blocks. I asked about the expected 2nd update for Empires, as part of understanding if there was a plan on how to deal with such issues. You plainly said there is no plan and won't be any time soon. I added the information that someone broke into the nether tunnel. It was more information on the situation.

    1. Players can't expect to keep other players out of Claimed areas
    2. the nether is not claimable -- you've stated this before and while I don't agree with it, it is a known answer.
    3. the Empires update isn't finished being planned out.

The only thing that I can do for the situation, according to these rules is suck it up and ignore it -OR- to block up the nether portal so that it can't be used by any one. This is not what I was expecting for an answer.

For some of your more personal comments, I have thoughts on those, but I would never have mentioned it directly in a public thread. And I will not do so now, out of respect for your position on the server.

  2. I am guessing this break in didn't just happen? If so please DM me the info and I will personally investigate. If this happened in the past I ask you to DM chicken or Moople with the name of the staff you reported this to. If you didn't report it, I will simply ask why not?

Griefing has always been against the rules and regardless of auto-protection or not this has been something staff are trained to respond to. This also includes reporting unwanted players at your outpost. Staff can intervene to resolve those situations as we have always done.

The thing to do according to the rules is inform staff. That is what the Moderation team is here for. Please do not disrespect their hard work and dedication by ignoring them when an issue arises. You can report to in game staff or to any staff member on the forum via DM.

The fact that the empires outposts future updates are still in the planning stage-there is just no set plan yet-doesn't mean we ignore years and years of doing things and throw up our hands in frustration. The staff team is here to help you in all these issues.

You do not see the working in the background and that can be a bit frustrating when you don't get the answer you are hoping for but I can assure you that although I see only a small bit more than you, I see the work being done to ensure the longevity of this community.

It comes down to this, really. Ensure the community continues or work on features that may not matter if the community dies off.

Having land claiming is not what built this server. The community did. What is really important to you?

  3. Empires are not outposts. <---- REALLY trying to clarify this terminology. Further updates to empires have nothing to do with claimed outpost protections. Zero updates have released for Outposts.

But also. This is not a place to make "reports". And trespassing is not a rule that I am aware of to report, so I guess I don't know what to say? If I don't provide a comment, that probably means I don't have anything to say... Clearly me writing something when I don't have anything to say only makes it worse than just leaving it alone.

With that out of the way. "IF" we were able to release outpost protections (which would be owned by empires). This is a philosophical point. I have never thought that -move is a compatible flag I would want to be available. -build,-container,-kill(animals) would be all great to have.
But this is a multiplayer server. If someone that is just exploring, starts running into invisible walls. That sucks. I don't want that.
You are allowed to disagree... I should have no obligation to take your side because another person might disagree with it as well. Can't take everyone's side.
note. The nether is not "currently" claimable. The only reason is the ratio difference (times 8 with the overworld). And also that someone further out may want a tunnel that passes through your space justifiably. One should not have the same full entitlement to the full y-height of a claim. Hence, this is something that needs a different definition. honestly, I don't think anyone has made a suggestion to the solution to this. I would be open to those types of suggestions. Full claims does not make sense though. Hence them being not claimable. A new type of rule/guidelines needs developed.

Empires are actually mostly done! The remaining parts of Empires mostly comes down to pricing which I have no idea what they should be, it is paralyzing. There needs to be sane limits. So people can get their expanded members, roles, etc.

I want a plan for outposts. I just don't have time to think about that potential project. I have some other projects I want to roll out first. I guess I just fail to see how not having "X" feature we have never had is the worst thing in the world.

  4. I think the "trespassing" meant by Katy is very different from the "trespassing" understood by chickeneer.

  5. (noting that the source of this image is not public)
So this is going to be part of the communication problem. 11 years ago, this was a note I had and implemented when refactoring the residence system that certain flags will not be compatible in certain worlds. In town, you are invincible and have strong control over powerful things in the world. Whereas in the Frontier... There is a desire to thread a needle with still being... survival. That someone should not be able to change the buffs flag. Or the move flag. Or have healing enabled, etc.

My point being. This is not a new perspective. I know I have thought this for at least 11 years... So I am not going to just change my perspective on a whim...

With that being said. A user should be able to express a concern without me complaining about life. That was inappropriate. Y'all don't need to know about my personal problems.

  6. Maybe.

    I see 2 scenarios:

    1. A player finds a build/claim/whatever we call it in the wild. They may look around and explore a bit and then move on. The owner may think that is trespassing but staff will likely do nothing as the player in this case didn't break the rules.
    2. That same player stays around and is anti-social in their behavior. Griefing, looting, or just being annoying to the owner/member of the build. Staff can and will get involved in this case as we have always as the behavior is a violation of the rules.

So there is no "trespass" rule but the staff can get involved when the behavior becomes as issue.

In both of the above if you, the owner or member of the build/claim, want them gone you should ask the player to leave the area in a polite way. Tell them it is your build. In most cases the player will move on and all is well.

  7. And in that context. There could be some refinements in defining when things cross over to that second step. The rules/guidelines are just not quite robust enough on this.
  8. I always thought that like a residence in town when entering some ones /wild "outpost" "empire" that there would also be a message "You're now entering (insert empire name) with maybe a clickable link for rules regarding the outpost.
Never did I actually think there would be an invisible wall around the joint. Cause using an elytra for travel just to hit the wall and fall and die would not be something I'd want to see.
  9. As someone who has an outpost I really like the idea of having a now entering/now leaving message.
  10. Firstly @MrSocks,
As you should have read from the very beginning, I made this post when I discovered that someone had been running around the outpost and raiding treasure loot chests and interacted with a village within the claimed outpost. I followed up shortly after with the information that I discovered someone had also been in the nether tunnel.
    1. I do not know that these were the same player.
    2. there were no bmoded blocks placed or broken. Just owned blocks being circumvented, for some reason.

Since there could be an innocent reason for this, I made the post and was hoping for some discussion of rules/adjustment to new rules for this situation. It really isn't covered in the rules right now. That was the point of the post. I wanted to understand what the thinking was going to be. If I found something that is actionable to report, I will do that. I don't expect to have mods take a report that "I found a wood axe floating in my ocean" -- ridiculous waste of staff time and my time, that would ultimately lead no where.

    Secondly @Chickeneer,
Based on our pm, I accept the apology you put forth. And I, in turn, regret my insult to you. Let's just move forward.

Lastly to all the other players,
Thank you for the messages, but I asked for a discussion. I meant it. You won't hurt my feelings by replying to this thread, even if you don't agree with me or you have another idea. Just keep it civil, per usual Emc.

  11. Just re-reading this past bit of the original post.
If you can't remove a bootable chest. That's a bug that would need reported (I'd need coordinates to investigate against). I'm not aware of anything that would prevent someone from removing their own

  12. i know staff input has already been provided several times to answer your questions katy but wanted to add a few grains of salt from my part as well as tips

    1. Trespassing

So the beauty of playing in a 15+ year server with a non-resetting map, is that player builds, the world is historic. It’s always been possible to just boat/travel and use smp#.emc.gs to guide yourself to s player build. Regardless of claim status.

player claims are NOT public knowledge. Yes, we make threads about them, but there isnt a public easily readable/ accessible list of all claims/location etc. Nor is it desireable to have this list, as 1 it could be used as a list of targets for griefers 2 it would be awkward for players to randomly open a list when they simply want to explore the world.

As AT said, about the message welcoming to the Empire. It is known that Claiming will be an adapted version of the residence system, but in the wild. So I fully expect to be able to use ‘res messages’ once we have them.

also due to how nether travel works you might have an player create a portal relatively close to one’s hidden portal and end up in a new portal or a already built portal inside a player built, accidentally or otherwise.

Context and instructions on how to make a fully trespass proof zone (not recommended)

Chorus fruit, beds, mounts also add an extra layer of mess, where one must assume that even if its a secret room, it could be trespassed purposely or accidentally. Also lag exploits/hacks are commonly used by trouble makers so multiple layers of /bmode blocks can be beneficial instead of just one.

for a full trespassing solution: I do not recommend it as it would take a lot of work for little gain imo

use a [LOCKED] Shulker as vertical door - this is annoying since its vertical but quite useful. I believe you used one, when you helped with smp8’s witch farm mining.

there must be 8 blocks of water as floor for all coordinates (if you are making full walls from all of Y axis) which is not ideal

so water floor in all the floor in every space where a player can fit (2blocks+)

    this will prevent chorus teleports

to protect from a player creating a portal near you from the nether, its not ideal, as the perfect solution would be to fill a big chunk of the nether accross all of Y axis in a /bmode manner so that, well players cannot build there. But then again…

even with the 1:8 blocks in the nether it would be a gigantic task with not much reward imo as I said before. Also given the 15+ year history of our map, more than likely there are nether tunnels near you accross your Y which you do not know about.

also, if you somehow make the perfect containment, and somehow a player accidentally traps themselves inside, then it would be issues

so creating a zone/big area whenre other players can’t trespass is too much work…
So realistically… if you trully want a small room or a few rooms to trully not be accessible:
    • use 2+ layers of /bmode in a cube shape.
    • Use a locked shulker to be used as door (or Bmoded blocks to be used as door)
    • In any space where players can stand, there must be water to avoid teleport ins (this means minimal to no decor inside this room, since many of these can create teleport-able surfaces
    • have a nether portal nearby (and outside!) so that if any are built they are redirected to this portal
So you mentioned about destroying naturally generated blocks.

what PWU did in the End main island, on top of building the /bmode arena…

we dug the first layer of about 90% of the island, and replaced the natural ‘flooring ‘ with /bmoded end stone…

that is a very time consuming task, but it prevent players destroying the natural scene, and bonus, it prevents destruction from mobs like the creeper, enderman, and wither (and probably more)

this is something I did with an entire mountain in my own outpost as I was tired of grabbing a quick snack and coming to a new hole by a creeper.

however, if a wandering player is lost/stuck to the point that they need to chop down a tree for basic wood and apples, I would prefer for them to do so, as I’d rather not let them die far out in the wilds. And i dont expect them to walk 1.5k blocks to ‘outside of my claim’ to be able to get some wood/food

    Loot chest:

In terms of only about the loot in chest, and not where other players should access them.

I know they are finicky to re-stock loot

but my understanding is that re-fill of loot was in fact enabled in the Wild

    July 2022
    https://empireminecraft.com/threads...h-treasure-chests-in-the-wild-frontier.86321/

this is the mention I remember concerning this. I’m not sure if things have changed since 2022 but existing logic to allow other players to get new loot from a loot chest should work both in Wild and Waste

  13. The loot chests are breakable and don't refill in the Frontier -- this is what I believe the current state of loot chests is. This is why I brought them up as a discussion point.

There have been changes made to the Frontier's loot chests over the years. I have read and reread all of these posts, the one that you linked and the one with chickeneer's answer in it. I don't know if I even understand loot chest rules anymore.
    • what happens to really old generated loot chests? say 1.12 generation or before?
    • do newer generated chests become breakable if they were already emptied when the update was made to be able to break them?
    • do they re-fill, as of today?
    • how do we know which one we have in our outpost?
