Tonight we are releasing the 1.21.9/10 updates to the EMC servers. Below are some patch notes and miscellaneous commentary. And then I will get out of the way to let you play. As always, please immediately report bugs to me in-game or on the forums at https://pmdev.emc.gs/ Thank you! Okay, so. I have a busy few months IRL. Thank you for hanging in there with me. Although this update is later than I hoped. It is also a bit rushed. I believe the majorly exploitable EMC things are patched out. But please please please report things you experience that are off. I have a bug fix already in the wings when I am clicking the send button on this update. lol. Before the patch notes, a shout out to jewel_king for helping me do some testing this afternoon. Got a lot done today! Patch Notes: Focusing on new features first. Lots of copper items have been added and should work as you would expect them. Copper Golems are eggifiable and retain a lot of their properties (waxed, oxidization, and worn antenna items). They should not interact with other people's residences nor any locked chests. Most of their protections are going to be locked behind the build flag. We have changed a vanilla mechanic so that the worn antenna item ALWAYS drops when turned into a statue or killed. Currently this is only a poppy - unless we would do something more with this in the future... Wooden Shelves. There is a new residence flag, the container:shelf flag. The major note on this is that we have written code to prevent them from being connected across residences nor by different antigrief block owners in the frontier. Note that "connecting" is done by powering the shelves. On that note, the wooden shelves are lockable - but I have also made them protected under antigrief protection along with the following: beacons, chiseled bookshelves, and decorated pots. Chain items are renamed to Iron Chain. Your old shop signs should work properly. There was some goofy things that changed with vehicle teleporting - so keep an eye out for any bugs with teleporting with a horse, etc. This update does not include a waste reset. We are still allowing connections from any 1.21.X version I recommend checking out the wiki page to see what all has changed in vanilla. https://minecraft.wiki/w/Java_Edition_1.21.9 Looking ahead. Mojang is to release Minecraft 1.21.11 on about December 9th. If time allows, I might be able to start on it ahead of time. But I am not making any promises on a release other than "in December". Maybe Christmas the Sunday before Christmas, otherwise the day after Christmas could be most likely. One more reply to the thread has some more important commentary.
Here is my extra commentary. As mentioned I have been busy IRL. Nothing bad, just busy with split priorities. I know some EMC players have been disappointed with the lack of certain holiday celebrations this past year. A lot of it is "I" don't want to just release the same old thing. But then don't have time to put together the something new I really want. Causing a deadlock. But then also, it is hard to come up with certain new ideas within the confines of Minecraft. All of that to say, I am not giving up on y'all/EMC. Just hard to prioritize certain things when overwhelmed with all the things. As for getting help from y'all. This is a difficult topic. A couple years ago I dreamed up the "Think Team", a group to essentially act as a think tank to hash out custom items, custom mobs, and other upcoming feature lists to take some of that off the table of the developers (me, lol). But with an overall busyness of IRL, I find that managing said team to be a bit overwhelming to even think about. And eats at my brain that more should be getting pushed out as a result. The Helper secondary Role. I have flaunted this a bit on my turkeneer account. An in-game role that is just a "helper" without invasive access to logs on the site. Basically help moderate in-game chat. A very low stress role, just to help fill in the things that need immediate reactionary action. I technically need to finish programming 1 or 2 actions that this role would employ. But then it comes down to apps, making decisions, training docs, etc. I ain't got time fo dat. But would fill things. (Hidden motive is also a filter for staff candidates, tbh). Mods. Frankly, I am just not able to train new mods. So why read applications for new mods if I can't train and oversee them *eeks*, mainly a time issue. I'm only one person... But also over time I have grown sufficiently aware that our staff team do have access to private info like IP addresses and chat (private chats are restricted to SrStaff+). And I just really am hesitant to rush anyone into that position without unquestionable confidence on trustworthiness, which is just not possible or a reasonable threshold. Devs. Not getting into that here. I cannot onboard devs is the simple comment. Not under the current arrangement. "higher" roles. Moople has been busy (shout out to her perseverance in doing amazing things with college - her stories to tell). I am certainly authorized to promote people to SrStaff (demoting is complicated atm) - I am not certain the correct candidate has presented themself thus far to resolve any of my issues listed here. At some point... for those that have read this far. To be blunt. I am going to do some recruiting for this role in particular. From the community, from the staff team. Basically. A who is compatible working with me in trust, personality, etc - and also has the personal desire to push forward the leadership of this server. Senior Staff has always been an "Admin" role. The purples are more of a super admin with more overriding authority (Krysyy is gone though - she doesn't count). But Minty is still admin. Anyways. I got a bit ranty into a wall of text there. Do I have a point? Probably. But keep an eye out for future announcements. Some refocusing of EMC's future is needed. But for today. Here is an update
Thanks for all you do to keep the lights on. I can't imagine not being able to play on here with you all.
If at some point MoreMoople does end up being promoted to a new Community Manager to replace Krysyy, she has my full support! But of course no pressure if she hasn't been offered that role, doesn't think it's right for her or is just too overwhelmed to take it on. In any case, I wish you all the best of luck in your endeavors! I also agree that it would be a bad idea to simply promote moderators lightly, especially if they can't be properly trained for months at a time. Also, thanks for the update! Are Super Turkeys and Feast Chests active now or not?
That is a powerful amount of information. Thank you for all of that. I shall now redouble my efforts to get back online for an update roll out. (cries at her keyboard that I missed it. working on it. working on it. maybe tomorrow)
Thank you for the update and for everything else you do for us. I saw my first Super Turkey of the season yesterday.
Hopefully you can find somebody with the correct amount of passion to make it work. It certainly will require a very deep interest and responsibility that isn't quite visible from the outside.
thanks chicken for you being you. this 3rd era of EMC (since you have become lead dev) has been amazing. i look forward to seeing what the future has in store for EMC
Awesome to see the new update. Awesome work. I take it that people that were updated to the previous version will still be able to access EMC, just not see the new stuff right? Or will they be restricted to town? I mean I logged in a few days ago to pick up some auction winnings and had no issues. Just curious. Starting college has been super fun with regards to how busy RL has become. Can see where Moople is coming from when she mentions being busy RL.
New features are accessed through viaversion which translates new features for existing entities/blocks if you use an older instance. You won’t be confined to town. However new features which use via version might be buggy to interact with using an older client
Did a reboot with not insignificant backend changes to things. Let me know if you experience anything out of the ordinary. "shouldn't" experience anything though.
