First off: no disrespect intended. But I cannot help be convinced that it is the custom changes holding us back. I base this on the fact that Paper (which is (was?) the foundation of EMC) is already on 1.15.2(!). Apparently they also changed their website and URL so I suspect something "happened". And I cannot help but notice (and thus comment) that "other servers" upgraded years ago. hmm....
For the record: my quote isn't mine, it comes from my all time favorite anime (before Spielberg ruined it): "Ghost in the Shell". And that quote comes from Major Motoko Kusanagi.
Per devs, it's world conversion. If we just hit reset and started over with 1.15, would have been easier. But we keep a continuity between updates that is the true downfall, but also the reason we're still around...
When we do update to 1.15, it's actually the scariest part for the conversion to occur properly with this update. And tons of steps are being made to make the transition possible.
Another bit of info, this is the first update we've had in quite sometime that you can expect some actual server offline maintenance to make sure the conversion happens safely and securely.
Regarding world resets: it's quite likely that I, amongst many others, would see a world reset as a good reason to leave, so I'm happy that a lot of effort is being put into ensuring the conversion will happen properly. (it's of course a pity that this effort has to be used for this relatively "stupid" thing, but alas.)
