I think tnt can send blocks flying and land on roads or other reses.

Could be true, but the closest near residence that is not mine or my friends (who hasn't been online the last day) is 2+ residences away, making it seem unlikely the blocks would fly that far away, let alone that they keep flying, 2 blocks above the ground.

Were they in different coordinates or all in the same row?

In the same row, 4 next to each other, and then one more on the same row, with two air blocks in between.
So like this: b a a b b b b
B = block (sand)
A = air
They were two blocks above the ground, so like this:
b
a
a
g
G = ground

Hm, perhaps they entered the chunk while it was not loaded.
But then somebody must've shot them from quite a distance.

But if they were shot, shouldn't they land on the ground?

I don't know, I've never tested stuff like that.

Just noticed 3 more flying sand blocks got placed... about 30 blocks from the other 5, and this time really randomly...

It almost sounds like someone made a sand cannon to shoot at peoples res or something lol.
