Hm, that's odd. Nothing like that here, when I finished my arithmetics exam early, I installed Minecraft and played for a bit on the laptop they gave me for the exam :P

Meh, the security's just really poor. You're not supposed to be able to download and install executables, but you totally can.
Also, everyone has access to the main school drive. Some folders are inaccessible, but you can make new files in them, which could get a problem if people start abusing it.

I seem to be one of the only people who discovers such things, though, and this time I'm trying to keep it relatively quiet, as last time I had discovered an exploit and shared it with other people it started becoming a trend which resulted in some warnings from the administration, and even though I was using an anonymous e-mail account just in case, I'd prefer not getting myself into trouble.

School drive is open for us and people upload viruses all the time and they can't trace it. I know for fact the computers have a bitcoin miner on them and turn on at midnight and turn off at 4:30 am

Yeah, that's why I don't tell any more people now, as while I know my friends won't abuse it, other people might.

The new high school that my district finished last semester has super robust network security which is kinda disappointing. They blocked access to 192.168.1.1, 127.0.0.1, root, and they even block all websites based on keywords. So "extra virgin olive oil" is blocked for the reason of having "virgin" in the title. Kind of a stupid system but it does work.

But there's also a bunch of false positives. They also started blocking ports entirely to get people off of VPNs, so next year I might host my own VPN off my home connection using port 80 so they can't block it.

At the old school, EMC wasn't blocked among a load of other cool things. It's also virtually impossible to get past the filter without straight up breaking the security on it, which would involve doing one or more things that are highly illegal lol. But I found that for normal websites, you can use cache: before the URL to load the Google cache of it which isn't blocked.

You can also use archive.org to access stuff like Reddit. If you haven't been able to tell, I spend most of my study hall time trying to break the network security lol. Too bad I'm out of school so I can't test stuff now, but next year I'll be trying to break it some more lol.

Oh yeah and the old school's "trusted" network (for use by teachers/administrators) had its password leaked by some teacher's kid and it spread like wildfire. The password still works for all of the elementary schools & the middle school at my district.

It worked at the high school as well until we got the new one. The new one uses some ridiculous authentication that only lets in school-owned MAC addresses connect. Lame.

Well that's the end of my school network ramblings.

That's the way it works: the more secure they try to make the system, the more people try to get past it!
