  1. Oh. I'm too late... ;s
  2. Just applied.
  3. As Dark_Liz mentioned, we ask that people don't get super eager about this as we don't have set times that we bring on new mods, so "hearing something soon" might not be realistic if we're good with the mods we have at the time. We did just had a few mods yesterday with the new server, so we're thinking we should be good there for a while. While we appreciate everyone who applies and wants to help, we have to ask that you don't send us questions all the time in the form of things like:

"Do you think I'm good enough to be a mod?"

This is a loaded question as not one staff member alone picks the new mods. We do it as a team so we can be objective and make sure the absolute best is chosen based on what the server needs. If you're not chosen, it's not personal.

    "Did you get my application?"

I understand the point in this, and if this were a real job, contacting us to ask this question would be appropriate, however for this situation, it won't sway our decision one way or the other in choosing people. We know you're interested, and yes, if you submitted an application, we got it. We also get quite a few everyday and they're all saved, so you have to remember, when we do start looking for mods when we need them, we're going through a LOT of applicants.

Finally, I'll leave you with a tip. This just comes with experience in moderating and running a team of moderators, and while you may be the "special one" that breaks this rule, there's no way to know this and it will be looked at the same. I've found that when you have those that badger about being a moderator, via questions like those above or just posting it randomly in unrelated topics or asking about in in the game, there's a very good chance that person would not make a good moderator. While they have the best intentions in the world, and want to do a great job for the position, that kind of behavior shows a lust for having power over helping people, and eventually it will show and it will end bad.

So, you may want to respond to that with:

"But, I really do want to help! I KNOW I would be a good mod, even though I ask a lot"

If this is actually true, and you care about helping the Empire and you're not just in it for the power, some of our GREATEST help comes from our members who aren't public as moderators. There are times when a moderator might be AFK or not present in a server, and this is where you would best come in. We already see a lot of members taking the bull by the horns on this and help people with the rules and whatnot, but this is the same time people might choose to "act up". Taking screenshots of very negative actions and sending them to us is just as helpful as being an actual mod, and has the advantage of the "bad guys" not knowing they're still being watched.

    Thank you.

  4. ok that would be a bit anoying....... just saying for others that hack and all that!!!
  5. I have been putting forth good effort, however this can only go so far without being able to put your foot down. :)
Some of the newer "members" have been making an effort to push the limits when there is no risk of kick/ban at the time. I have taken many screen grabs and all, however it is only getting so much done. None are serious offenses, as of yet. Only simple "ALL CAPS YELLING" and spamming "Kick me" "Ban me" so far.

Other times it is "Hey come to this lot, he has nice stuff and was dumb enough to give me permissions..." Things of that nature. The individuals involved know the risks, and choose to ignore them. Nothing can be done to this without knowing the exact location, or the ability to TP to any user...
  6. We are hoping to get a more streamlined reporting system in the future, but for now the best thing is probably to send those screenshots to all the moderators/admin in a single private message (you can add as many people as you like to conversations).

We're not all around all the time, so if you send the message to everyone there's a good chance that one of us will be able to come on and deal with it promptly.

Thank you for your concern and effort Twitch!

  7. Hmm i just sent an application and i think i would make a good moderator. Because im fair,Friendly,Coopertive, and nice.
  8. you should read gamekribjeremys post two post above yours
  9. :) Exactly... This is just more fuel for the fire when you do not read what has been stated. If you were to fully research your subject, you would know that by posting anything in regards to your application will not enhance your opportunities to become a moderator. In fact, they may even hurt them. Doing so implies that you may just be after power over others. It does not show true dedication to keeping the Empire Community from falling prey to hackers/spammers/griefers/nuisances/trolls who only come along to develop and encase others in negativity.

As has been stated by Jeremy above:
This has been echoed as well by JustinGuy, Dark_Liz, AusQB, Slozon, Myself, and countless others in the community.

Remain vigilant in-game as well as on the forums. You do not need the title or a green in-game name to gain the respect and trust that is given to the staff. They earned that position because they are known to assist, provide answers, and attempt to resolve issues within the community and do so without hesitation.
It is equally rewarding when other members turn to you for assistance and guidance when no mod is available to resolve their issue.

Do what you enjoy doing for the Empire. If you truly enjoy helping others, do so without hesitation. If you would rather play the game without being troubled by an annoying player, use the options given to you instead.
When someone does something that is causing you to feel distracted, use the command /ch ignore [player] or if you would like to adventure in peace, you have the option of /ch off.

If you wish to be a moderator, act as one now.
Put forth the effort to help new users with their questions.
(Be knowledgeable of the site as well as core game play mechanics.)

Communicate with the other players of the server. When someone breaks a rule, inform them of their error.
Typically the individual may be excited about something and will act without thinking, your friendly reminder will hopefully keep them from repeating their mistake.
Use good judgement, not every all caps message is intentional. Accidents do happen.
When you do make such decisions, do it with a fair and impartial stance. Do not pick sides.
Your role is to gather the evidence of heinous acts, best done with screenshots.
Report them properly to any of the staff, typically GameKribJEREMY, Dark_Liz or AusQB can be found in smp1.

Please do not bother JustinGuy with community issues, this responsibility belongs to Jeremy and the moderator team. Justin manages coding, announcements, server changes, forums, etc.

Remember, almost everyone here is approachable for a casual conversation. Do not feel that anyone on the staff will turn their back on you when you say hello. This is exactly why the community has grown so quickly. Most who remain for an extended period of time in the Empire do not look down their noses at others. Just remember, treat others as you wish for them to treat you.

    As always,
    10. Thou Shalt Have Fun

  10. Thank you as well for your recognition. I am always trying to keep the Empire fun for everyone. I came here with an open mind and I stayed here with an open and joyful heart and spirit.
The Empire has given me the opportunity for socializing based on a common interest, and as well a balance to fill the void that are my weekends.

My doctor is happy to know that I have found a good way to cope with my loneliness that I am feeling while my family remains in Honduras, still waiting for their Visas...

I hope to know the Empire for many years to come. I feel as if I have found a stable home, something very difficult to do in the military...

  15. Please take the time to check out my application, I joined this server when we were only at 437 players.
  16. Is that BetaGuardians you're quoting lol
  17. Dang it, It's so hard to decide. I was going to apply, but I still want time to play with my cousin and upgrade my residence. But at the same time, I want to help make this community grow and prosper. :( I don't know what to choose.

  18. I am the most recently appointed moderator for the Empire. I will be honest, I used to put a lot of effort into assisting persons without the responsibility and it was demanding work.
However, this is exactly what I enjoyed about the Empire more than anything else. I love this place. I love Minecraft, but I love the community here even more. This is the most progressive, organized and well structured server available.

Becoming a moderator is work. You must assist all players, both newbies and veterans alike. You must mediate disputes and use your best judgement when instances of rule breaking occur. Not every infraction is intentional. Not every infraction is excusable either. Some things require nothing more than a stern word.

Any creative project you have regarding your residence must be 2nd on your list of activities. As a moderator you stand as a beacon to all players. You no longer represent just yourself. You represent the Empire. Your actions will be scrutinized above all others within the community. You must never compromise your integrity.

I live by the 7 core Army Values.
    LDRSHIP
    Loyalty
    Duty
    Respect
    Selfless-Service
    Honesty
    Integrity
    Personal Courage

I will perform my duty as a moderator here as professionally as I carry myself as a soldier.

  19. Twitch I am glad that we have moderators as helpful as you. I would also like to thank Dark_Liz, AusQB, and GameKribJEREMY for all their hard work. And all the moderators I don't know, and the people working behind the scenes, the "Undercover Moderators". :D
