Microsoft Buying Mojang?

Discussion in 'General Minecraft Discussion' started by yarbsarb, Sep 9, 2014.

  1. There is no way that they would cut anything from Minecraft. Mojang is not completely stupid, they would only accept an offer with specific terms, such as that the game must still be available to all users, certain lead devs still make major decisions, the game can't end its development, stuff like that. Mojang is looking at this offer from the viewpoint of "How can we make sure we survive if we take the offer." If they just wanted the money, they would be asking every company out there to make them offers.

When they look at Microsoft, they likely see large funding, lots of useful talent, and huge marketing opportunities. The team will stay the same, but they will get a boost in productivity (and we all knows Mojang sucks at being productive). It will be like when Facebook bought Oculus. I, and many others, hated it at first, but since the momentum behind the Oculus Rift was so large, FB couldn't just cannibalize it. Now Oculus gets whatever it needs, and Facebook will eventually get a very well optimized virtual reality social media experience. Microsoft it clearly in it for the money and publicity-through-popularity side of Minecraft, the Mojang team is practically useless in any other way.

  2. Sums it up pretty well.
    Though EA would be worse.
  3. According to this article from the Bloomberg news, Minecraft will still be available on all platforms.

  4. In my opinion, this probably wouldn't be too bad. I think jkjkjk182 summed it up pretty well. Microsoft probably wouldn't get too involved in it and just be there to make money and pump a bit of money into it. If EA were to buy mojang, then obviously this would be very bad.

Now, it would be stupid to kill off the Mac or PS4 versions because they'd go and lose a heap of their customers.

If this does happen, I hope a few members of the current team are shown the way out, but other than that, I hope (and don't think) much else will change.
  5. Xbox games have limits. PC games do not. Therefore, PC wins :D

  6. It is whatever you want.

  7. PC games may win, because they are naturally better, but they do have practical limits. Many people don't own super computers yet so really difficult to run games may not get much of an audience...
  8. Yeah, and then we will never see 1.8.1 or higher... :/
  9. Microsoft also bought Skype and it is still available for unix platforms as iOS and Linux.
The only thing is, I won't be able to stay away from there products as much as I do now...Minecraft would be the first Microsoft stuff to hit my hard disc :eek:
  10. I agree haha

  11. Wonder if the first thing to happen is that we'll have to pay to play. Otherwise, I'll be patient and wait and see what happens.
  12. Who knows next year you could have a new game called Mico-craft with soft blocks :D

  14. OMG Michael makes me cry D; One of the only times I've got emotional of a TV program haha, anyway back on topic!

I personally think this would be the boost that minecraft needs to improve. With the huge company of microsoft behind them, mojang can improve the game at a faster rate and focus more on the PC version of the game (mac too of course though this would displease them). This is IF anything actually happens, its not confirmed yet so im not getting my hopes up as of yet.

...but as we know, Microsoft plans are to kick Linux and MAC where it huts ((their wallets)) and i don't believe if Microsoft buys Mojang that people will buy Windows/Microsoft products instead, just to be able to play Minecraft!
  16. No no no no no no no no no no no no. Why does everyone think that Microsoft would spend a boatload of money on a huge game, only to cut out a large area of the market?! Seriously, use logical economic sense people! That and the long history of pure Microsoft products being made for Macs too.

  17. In a world where Facebook can buy Oculus Rift, nothing surprises nor disappoints me anymore.
  18. If Microsoft buys Majong every new version of Minecraft will no longer be free to update, people will have to pay for the update/new version..just like in any other Microsoft game...i might not have the 20$ every time an update comes out!
  19. When has microsoft charged for a simple update? I thought it was Ea and origin who made all the DLC that is absurd amounts of prices
kevdudeman, jkjkjk182 and 607 like this.
  20. Look on the bright side, we might finally get the Mod API we've been promised, because Mojang has excuses and Microsoft won't!

(Cause Microsoft has loads of money:p)
