  5. One of the meals I make for my family is chili. I know the OP suggests dinner for one, but there's always leftovers. I like it because I can vary the recipe and make it as simple or as sophisticated as I want and everyone in my family likes it. At least I assume so because we never seem to have left overs. Most of the time I use a recipe I've had for a long time, but when I'm in a hurry I use this one.

    Basic ingredients:
    1lb Hamburger
    1 can Tomato soup
    1 can Kidney Beans

Cook the hamburger. Once the hamburger is cooked and drained, add the tomato soup. If it is condensed don't forget to add water. Open the beans and drain the juice, then add them. You're done!

    Options:
I almost always add canned, diced tomatoes.

Chili powder is a must have for us also.

I like onions. If you want to add onion, cut one up into small pieces and add it to the hamburger before you cook it. If you don't like cutting them up, you can buy onion powder or minced dried onions and add them instead.

Garlic. Again if you don't want to bother cutting it up, you can get minced garlic in little jars at the grocery store. It keeps for a really long time in the refrigerator. There is also powdered garlic.

Beans are a hassle to cook. We buy bags of dry beans then I cook batches of them ahead of time and repackage 1-2 cups of them into storage bags and put them in the freezer. If you lay them flat they store nicely and thaw out well when you cook them.

You can also get canned, flavored beans for chili which I like also. If I use these, I hold off on the chili powder until I've tasted it then decide whether to add more.

The longer you cook chili(within reason) the better it seems to get. If you have the time, let it simmer. Add a little extra water I you have to.

Sprinkle a little shredded Cheddar or Colby cheese on the top and let it melt.

  7. How to cook ANY recipe: Follow a recipe book's instructions :D
Or in a pinch, the internet!
Barbecued chicken w/ Montreal steak spice(for chicken :p), potatoes (skins on, of course)(wrap them in foil) and some microwaved veggies if you are lazy is one of my favorite meals! Especially if you marinade the chicken beforehand.(thighs are my fav) All on the BBQ (except the veggies, unless you like beans, in which case, awesome!)
