EMC shop -- Helpful or Harmful?

  1. Yes, thats exactly what it is. While a message to ward off new players would be great, I definitely think the prices should stay the same. As a shop owner, I'm constantly working to stay in stock, and if the prices at /shop where more reasonable, how could I ever compete with something that never runs out of stock? The /shop is meant as a price cap, a rupee sink, and a last resort shop, but it is not meant to be a local friendly shop. That would destroy the economy. Also, I'm not sure what smp9 your reffering to, but it's one of the most populated smp's and has lots of huge malls :p

  2. Those two statements both serve the case that the prices are too high. I still wouldn't buy all items from the EMC shop even at a 25% discount, especially cake, but I can guarantee you that people in SMP 9 with no means of gathering melon seeds may just find the shop to be the quickest alternative.

I'm also pretty sure that wasn't an analogy, cake is actually selling for 1,000 Rupees in the shop, last I heard.
I have not been on in half a year. It could have changed.

Lower shop prices would not drastically tip the economy. The prices would:
That's not going to affect the cake salesman. He's not selling cake for 750 Rupees.
That's probably not going to affect the other vendors either, as their prices are still drastically lower than the EMC shop.

SMP9 didn't have too much going on, last I checked.
Perhaps SMP7 is a better example.

The prices would not be reasonable at the shop, and you wouldn't have to worry about competition. There is still TONS of wiggle room for you to make huge profit off of items if the prices went down as little as 25%. I doubt you would even have to make a single alteration to any of your items' prices.

The items at the shop would:

be adjusted so they are painful instead of ridiculously high as most of them are now.
  3. again you are basing its prices off a single servers economy, it spans all 10 servers however and couldnt be adjusted to serve only one. as i said before its high because that chest potentially holds a monopoly on goods like circle stone. it is also high to prevent the eventuality of an inflated economy.

said cake salesman is likely to be foregone because he only has one item in stock. while most cross server buyers want to get quantity
  4. circle stone is the best analogy go look at its shop prices, then local prices and compare them. then take 25 percent off shop price. bam now shop is competing with vendors i wonder who is in stock more? shop of course so they win that pricing battle
  5. I'm not bias to a single server, this would be helpful throughout all servers, SMP9 and SMP7 were the two best examples because of their more-sluggish-than-SMP1 economies.

The cake salesman provides as much cake as he can supply. I used to sell cake for 10 rupees a piece in 3 Double-Chests. They could buy 75 of my cakes, or 1 EMC Shop cake.
    Said Cake Salesman is unaffected.

If you're seriously suggesting that someone would be competing with shop prices after a 25% discount, then you need to go review just how expensive the EMC shop actually is.
  6. go look at circle stone prices, cake is the extreme example of shop. also players already compete with shop prices we just win and thats intentional.

once more you cannot reduce shop prices without reducing shop prices on all servers. it would destabilize atleast two of the servers i know of economies
  7. OF course we wouldn't be adjusting them just for individual servers. That would just be weird, and is not part of my suggestion.

As for the competition, yes, it's completely intentional that you win. I'm not suggesting that players should compete with the EMC shop, which is why a 25% reduction from shop prices would be fair. It does not cause vendors to lower their prices, and it allows people to spend LESS money, (but still quite a bit due to the infinite amount of stock) at the EMC shop

I'm not sure what Circle Stone is.
  8. its the stone you can only find in jungle temples. it normally sells from a shop at about 40r, emcshop sells it for 50r. take 25 percent off 50 and now tell me that vendors arent having to lower their prices
this also applies to things like mossy stone, obsidian diamond and emerald ore, and a bunch of others
  9. Just like real life banking ;)

  10. In that sense you would be correct, to the extent of my knowledge, and the 25% fee would have to be kept on hold for that one.
  11. I didn't name any items, but those are among the items that should maybe be left alone or even raised as I pointed out earlier. The point of the thread, I think, is that there are plenty of other items that are priced so high it's silly.

You guys are investing a lot of energy into something that's just not going to happen. Higher/Lower/No Change... The bottom line is that the issue is probably not important enough or important to enough people(or the right people) to bother with. I think prices could use some adjustment but I have things I'd much rather see Staff put their time into before this.
  12. Unfortunate, but true.
Minor and passive adjustments to overpriced/underpriced items I suppose is the most we can hope for.
  13. after looking around the shop it would seem that most(not all) of the items sold incredulously high are renewable items like cake, perhaps this was done with purpose? encourage farming and exploration maybe?
  14. I have read most of the posts that are written in this thread and I believe I know where the problem is coming from.
The Empire Shop was NEVER meant to be a frequently used shop. It is meant to serve as a price cap for items and to also provide a place where, if you have ALL the rupees, you could conceivably buy whatever you wanted without having to search the multitudes of player shops. Let it also be noted, that the prices are purposefully outrageous because the items being bought are being spawned in by the system and were not part of the natural spawn world of the Empire.

Although some players believe that the shop is a rupee sink, it is actually not. You are spawning the items you receive out of the virtual thin air and you can consider the heightened price part of the fee for the spawning process and the instantaneous reward.

I do believe that perhaps we should add something to the guide to make this clear to new players, but that is the only change that I see happening in the foreseeable future.
  15. See, while some prices in the Empire Shop are much higher then other - relative, compared to market prices, the problem is NOT in empire shop being expensive, but the players' shops being far too cheap.
    Who understands this raise hand.

    (Remember AussieColt?)

The Empire Shop can not really function as price cap, because letting it cap the prices would ruin the EMC economy.
I don't think that EMC owners would let that happen. The EMC economy is one of the main selling traits of EMC. The life on EMC as we know it would end without functioning economy.

Think, who would actually profit from prices being capped?
Why would we need a price cap anyway?
    Who knows, please tell.
  16. Please stop double posting soy...
    Might get you in trouble.
  17. They're not exact duplicates, and there were only two of them, each about different subjects. This thread also has nothing to do with the posts. Considering the threads were locked, I created explanatory threads containing necessary replicated text.
I'm pretty sure I've already covered this in a couple other threads already. It's no skin off your nose.
  18. That actually does sound like a good, and reasonable idea to me.
Before this thread was created, I never thought of it as a price cap.

  19. Double posting is posting twice in less than two hours, which youve done multiple times.
    Please stop.
    Thank you. :)

  20. You're inferring two posts on the same thread? I was assuming you meant the creation of 2 threads, which I can partially understand.

That seems like even less of a problem....
why look at the thread if you have issues with me posting twice to answer two separate people?
I suppose I could condense them into a singular message using two quotes, but what's the harm?
