Heads - verification

Discussion in 'Marketplace Discussion' started by LindenNZ, Oct 16, 2021.

  1. In the thread about Goat Head Head staff explained there would be no way to know if the head was dropped that way or had been renamed. So if a player wears a mob skin, dies and drops their head, and renames it to, for example "Witch Head", is there any way to tell it apart from a legitimately dropped head from killing the mob?

If they can't be distinguished then doesn't that cause some issues for the head market if there is no way to know what is a genuine head and what isn't?

This isn't an issue for Zombie, Creeper, Skeleton and Wither Skeleton heads/skulls or player heads that have non-italicised item names. I have some old mob dropped heads that are named like "MHF _Slime's Head" also non-italicised.

Is there a way to make the legitimately dropped heads distinguishable from renamed heads, with non-italicised text or coloured text? (But that wouldn't help much for verifying the existing heads).
  2. Interesting points brought up here. The reality is that it could be distinguished since the skin texture is going to have a different UUID. Without server/client modification, there would not currently be a way to tell.
Perhaps we need to make the dropped mob heads more special

  3. Here. I'll throw out something else. What is everyone's thoughts about buffing the drop rate? Changing the item's name/lore gives an opportunity to reevaluate that without disadvantaging those that already collected them.

  4. While we're on the topic of head drops. I've found that killing enraged endermen and enraged magma cube that the head drop from them doesn't say enraged endermen or enraged magma cube but rather the normal name of just endermen or magma cube. Where as other enraged mobs like shulkers when their head drops do say enraged shulker. But perhaps thats because the enraged shulker has a different color, a variation difference from its counterpart unlike the other enraged mobs, particles aside.

  5. There is actually a way to distinguish a head obtained by the player death method mentioned and the actual mob. A such renamed head will have 3 NBT tags, whereas the actual mob head will have 4. (Or maybe it's the other way around, I'm not entirely sure, I know it's one of the two, though.) To see how many NBT tags an item has, use F3+H.
  6. why are people so up in arms about mob drop verification all of a sudden? its always been difficult to verify non-vanilla heads as far as I am aware :/

  7. That would work, except renaming a player head adds a tag. Mob heads have 3 tags (except for the old MHF ones that have 2) and player heads have 2 tags.....but when you rename a player head it goes up to 3 tags which means it's still not a way to distinguish a renamed player head from an actual mob head.

  8. I know I've raised a tricky issue. I don't want to disadvantage any already collected. I have some myself and I know just how much killing and time it can take to get just one head!

  9. It is not very well-known, but there is in fact a way to verify the authenticity of a mob head.

First, start with a head, such as this Hoglin Head

Next, take it to an anvil. Delete the entire name, and then put a singular space. With a normal renamed item, this will clear the rename and revert it back to its original name. What does it do for an EMC mob head?

It says "Hoglin's Head", as if Hoglin is the player name. So, for any EMC mob head, simply do this, and if it says "Mob's Head", you know it's real. If it says "Playername's Head", you not only know it's a fake, but can find out who renamed their own head.

  10. That works!!
  11. So now all of a sudden theirs a way to tell a fake head from a legit one? Wait does this mean what i think it means.....xD jkjk:cool:
  12. I think this should be discussed in its own thread, not in a player-suggestion thread about a related matter.
Except if the player is called 'Hoglin'. :p Mob names don't seem to be reserved.
  13. Can we discuss the issue of why mob heads are even italicized in the first place? It has been a thing for a while and has not been fixed.
