Minecraft “Map” Ideas

  1. Hey so I love to watch the YouTube videos where you have to solve the maps or hit the button to go to the next level and I was thinking of making one on emc. But there would be a few differences because on emc you can’t do all the fancy command block stuff all you can really do is flags, sub zones and teleport signs.

Let me know if you have any ideas that work on emc. Thanks
  2. It can work I think runder May have had a huge parkour course at one point
  3. Like a mini-adventure map with puzzles? I like that idea a lot. I have talked to other players about how to do it but we didn't get far :p Multiple residences is probably a good idea and you could do a lot with teleports. Any redstone would need to automatically reset for the next player. The named book Hogwarts mechanism works pretty well. There are different options depending if you want it to be self-sustaining or are happy to do active maintenance.

  4. Yeah I was thinking something like that. I also saw a mini game called the button and basically its like a little map with a button hidden and when you find it and click it you go to the next level. It seemed interesting and definitely semi doable with tp signs.

  5. you could also do something with keys where you hide the key (book/block) somewhere and include some puzzling on "which key goes to which lock" with clues and stuff like that.

this sounds like a really cool idea! definitely looking forward to seeing which direction you go with it. :D

  6. I have worked on such a project for a while, untill abandoning it because it just became too large for me to get working. You can still see what I did at residence Egeau-5 on Utopia. I still want to finish it one day, but I have a lot of other projects I'm working on right now, most of which feel "more important" than that one, so it might never happen.

There are a lot of things you can do with the [MESSAGE] signs, the [TELEPORT] signs and some good old redstone, actually. I was also thinking of having a few different story lines, which can work when you just let people teleport to different rooms and basically make a lot of paralel rooms, aditionally, you cna use items to activate stuff, such that you can have different parts happen at the same place. I might be working on something that is a bit more story-driven than what you're planning, though...

Anyway, great plan, and, if you need some tips on how to make redstone work or something, I might be able to help you out :)

  7. Love how this sounds, the only this is on emc for finding the keys and stuff I am not sure how that would work because on the maps where they use command blocks it only allows certain blocks to be placed on certain other blocks and certain things to only break certain things.
  8. Another map idea is which block doesent belong. Each level has a few blocks and if you select the right one then you move on to the next level and if you select the wrong one the you try again and we could make it competitive by doing like every time you get the wrong one it adds 10 seconds to your time but idk how I could make it so people don’t just spam the buttons
  9. You could use (renamed) items for the keys, and item filter hoppers for the locks. :)

  10. That’s true. Kind of like an escape room where you have to find different things to unlock more things to ultimately get you to the end?

  11. Sounds fun! You'd have to make it so that you could easily access the droppers or whatever would yield the items, so you could restock it frequently (you could also just put a lot of the item in there, but then you'd still need to check if nobody emptied it for some reason).

  12. Yeah that would be really fun. I just don’t know like how to think of like what actually they have to do, it would take some time for me to come up with the actual things to do
  13. you can check if the item is correct by using a "lock circuit" (check in the spoiler) the video shows using a book as the "key" but you can use a renamed item as well if you prefer (though it's less secure that way).

if you prefer not to let them keep the key, you can direct the hopper into a chest instead of droppers.

  14. Alright, I am still struggling on different ways to hide the keys and clues and stuff. Ideas?
  15. There are a few challenges that can be constructed that don't require ongoing maintenance - mazes, parkour (not my personal favourite), shooting wooden buttons, correct multi-choice answers.

If you want to check them out there are games at +funfair on smp7. I also built a Wonderland walk-through adventure +wonderland on smp7. I had thought about making it a puzzle map but decided to make it just an easy walk-through. And my friend and I built +minigolf on smp7 too.

It's always hard to pick the right balance of difficulty as we have such a wide variety of ages and abilities on EMC. I'm hopeless at parkour and a lot of stuff myself :p

  16. Do you know of any escape room type places?
  17. Don't be afraid to try out new stuff! :)

  18. escape room stuff, and hide-the-button type things might work well for hiding keys and hints. don't forget mazes and also "hidden doors behind paintings"! clues can be hidden by using [message] signs under the floor.

(don't forget that a teleport sign and a message sign can be combined, and can be triggered by a button (or pressure plate) or "standing/passing over it at a certain height"! and if you put the redstone cleverly, a sign's button can also trigger a dispenser.)

  19. If you wanted to try stuff out you could do a rough mock up of mechanisms and ask people to test them?

Makes a big difference if you are happy to reset a room (like they do in the real life rooms) or want it self-resetting so players can come and go freely.

Does Hogwarts self-reset or do the named books need relocated around manually?

  20. This is a great idea!

AFAIK it's a manual reset. It would require a very fancy hopper setup to be done auto-magically.
