    Premise:

You are the Knight, you have stumbled upon the vast ruined kingdom of Hallownest. You must find your way and purpose as you explore the dark caverns, ruined towers, and overgrown railways to find out what really happened to this once glorious kingdom. Armed with just your nail (sword), you jump down a hole to begin your journey in discovering the truth of Hallownest.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Controls:

With full customization of keyboard keybindings for those on PC/Mac, full controller support for those who are on console or playing with a controller (my personal preference), the controls are very simple. The basic movements of walk left/right, jump, and dashing. As you progress through the game, you unlock other abilities such as double jump and wall climbing, but these aren't adding complexity to the controls rather just extensions to already existing inputs.

    Soundtrack:

The original soundtrack, composed by Christopher Larkin, is one of the most mystical and breathtaking soundtracks that really captivates its listeners and gives the perfect feelings to the areas you are exploring. Personally, I suggest you play the game first before listening to the full soundtrack, since the magic of the tracks are helped by the feelings of exploration and first impressions set by the artwork, situations, and the stakes you are in at that moment. However, here is one of the first tracks you ever hear when you first start Hollow Knight
    The Fading Town of Dirtmouth:

    Artwork/Graphics:

While it seems more and more games strive to be more "life-like" with their graphics, Hollow Knight takes a unique approach to it's art style. With 100% hand-drawn/shaded backgrounds, characters, and objects Hollow Knight stands alone as one of the most beautiful games art-wise. Every area feels unique and set-apart, yet all similar enough to fit together into one cohesive kingdom.

    DLC:

When Team Cherry released Hollow Knight, they had so much more they wanted to do with the game. They decided it was only fair to make DLC for the game and then release it after the game launched. Unlike most companies however, this DLC is 100% FREE. All 4 DLC packages are free forever, no catches, no in-game purchases, nothing but just more amazing content.

    A few things to note:

A few additional things that should be mentioned about Hollow Knight would be the following: (as explained by ForeverMaster [thanks])
    • Death in Hollow Knight is handled similarly to Dark Souls and Shovel Knight: you drop all of your geodes (money). You can get them back though (if you don't die again).
    • The game has multiple endings. Which one you get partially depends on whether you acquire certain items (or not).
    • The way Hollow Knight handles maps sounds inconvenient, but it is actually beneficial to what Team Cherry was going for. -- When you first enter a new area, you have no map. And when you do get one, it's incomplete. Furthermore, you can only update the map by resting on a bench (which is also how you save your progress).
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Personal Praise:

I have never connected or loved a game as much as I have with Hollow Knight. I recommend it anyone and everyone I can. I do warn however, you will get lost, you will die (a lot), and you will wanna quit. That's part of the journey of the game. It is a very hard game. But I have purchased the game 5 times (for every platform I own and a few gifts) , accumulated a LARGE collection (art, plushes, statues, etc), and wear as much Hollow Knight attire as I can when I can. I urge anyone looking for a game to play while cooped up in their homes to at least give Hollow Knight a try!
ps: If you need help/advice, message me on Discord. I will always try and help where I can

    Thanks your reading my showcase!

  2. Bumping for a bit more attention ❤️
  3. I know I have a habit of being enthusiastic to excess when I find something I like on these forums, but I legitimately cannot recommend this game enough. It is one of my all time favorites.
    • Ridiculously cheap for the amount of content in this game and its sheer quality
    • Simplistic, easy to grasp controls
    • Absolutely GORGEOUS graphics and score
    • Challenging enough to keep you busy for quite some time
My one gripe is that they released the trailer for the sequel (Hollow Knight: Silksong) so early without a release date, and ever since it has been driving me bonkers waiting to see when it'll finally arrive.

On another note, will never stop willing Nintendo to add the Knight as a DLC character in Smash Ultimate. His moves are practically already designed for Smash's control styles, and the Hollow Knight fanbase is one of the most earnest and wholesome video game groups I have ever encountered. Give the people what they want!
  4. I just started this game the other day! Its really awesome so far although I'm only about an hour or so in. Loving it so far!

  5. This post has a very similar structure to the one I made recently on these forums. Good for you if that non-Minecraft post got you to write this one about Hollow Knight.

Despite my liking towards Nintendo's Metroid series, I did not enjoy Hollow Knight as much... I guess. I find there's a difference between going into a new experience blind and having a solid idea what to expect. That being said, I think there's a little more information outsiders should know before they play Hollow Knight.

    ...

Something I forget about -- is how some video games, including Hollow Knight, intentionally focus on negative emotions for their players to overcome. Difficulty then becomes a tool to emphasize these gameplay scenarios or the overall mood. I'd argue that hard or challenging video games (and challenge modes to an extent) can be very effective to preparing children and young adults for their future real-world endeavors. Because in reality, you can't avoid every troublesome barrier you're confronted with.

  6. Like what exactly? I tried to be more on the vague side as to not spoil anything/the experience that was intended by the developers.

  7. First A Hat in Time and now this? I love it, it'd be great if others are inspired to write a thread like this. :D
Sounds like a game I'd like! And it's cheap too! It seems like the physical version is quite hard to find, though, at least at the moment. Hopefully enough copies will be released. :)
Actually, I think this is pretty rare for indie games. Most seem to go for pixel art instead. This game looks beautiful, though! :o

  8. Sorry I didn't specify.
I understand you want to minimize spoilers. I just think there a few more notes you could add.

  9. Haha, yeah. I guess I could have added those... Kind of a major part of it :p

EDIT: I have added it into the main thread and gave credit, couldn't have explained it better so I just used your quote lol

  10. Thanks.

You didn't need to include the last note I wrote. I meant that as a suggestion to include under the game's logo in the OP (specifically right after you list the developer.
