HOW TO: use your water bucket EVERY NOW AND THEN

Discussion in 'Player Guides, Tips and Tricks' started by SoccPuppet, Feb 15, 2020.

  1. No, i definitely won't do a series of HOW TO on here, i promise I'll never do it. (xD)
Now back to the topic: how to use your water bucket......TO AID YOU EVERY NOW AND THEN:

    1. Solidify lava.
I don't want to say much on this since it's nearly as well-known as Minecraft itself, but in case you're a big big noob I'll just explain this. Pour water on a block that's adjustant to lava and watch everything turn into obsidian. now step on to the obsidian and do it again. Repeat this and you can easily cross the lava lake that's between you and your bling bling diamond. Speaking of diamond, another place to use water bucket......

    2. Protect your diamond, but not mine around it.
Pour water adjustant to an exposed diamond ore, and just mine. Any lava that get exposed will be solidify faster than the speed of your diamond fall into lava.
[Pro trick] Place a block in water and stand on the block to negate the in-water mining speed penalty if you don't have aqua affinity already. And as we are talking about water now, another life-saving trick underwater is......

    3. Create air pocket.
Stand next to a wall that's at least 2 block high, empty your bucket on the block that's adjustant to your head and then repeat this. You'll fill up your water bucket and create an air pocket that replentish your air meter as well. If you can't find a wall, build a 2 block high pillar right by you, and use this trick.
[Pro trick] In the upcoming empire 1.15 update, you can't replentish your breath meter instantly. Just keep doing this trick and the speed you replentish the breath meter is faster than that of you consuming it.

    4. Climb up cliff.
This one is a bit tricky as you need to click and click fast. But if did well, a water bucket can be used as infinite ladders and don't leave any ladders behind!
Moving on to how to do this, step by step:
    1. Pour water as high as possible.
    2. Swim to the top of your water.
    3. Quickly retrieve your water and......
    4. Look upwards and repeat step 1 as fast as possible.
By repeating these step, you should be able to float up in water infinitely and climb up that cliff that's just in front of you seconds ago!
{Special note} If you don't want to flood the place, dig down one block on the block you're trying to do the trick on. This will prevent water from going around and just stays in the hole.
{Special note} If you have enough ladders and you can and willing to use ladders, just use ladders as it's faster than water bucket.

    5. MLG
This one is also as famous as Minecraft itself, and it's hard to explain. This trick heavily depends on your personal reflex speed, so don't try this unless you either don't care about death, have good armor, or really skilled.
MLG is an action that's typically performed at the end of a long fall in Minecraft, putting down things that can slow down or negates fall damage to protect yourself against fall damage. All there is to it is precise and accurate timing and that's all it takes.
[Pro trick] Do this in the nether by replacing water bucket with a cobweb, or even lava if you have fire resistance on!
(Emergence backup plan) If you don't trust your skill but still want to go down that one block wide hole, place water at the opening of the hole, wait about half a second and get rid of water. Jump into that bit of water and hold space key. The speed is definitely slower than MLG(only the speed of going down ladders), but it's nearly foolproof.

    6. Flood enemy away
You're swarmed by zombies and creepers. You're miserably low on health and you only have a water bucket on you. What do you do in this kind of situation?
No, the answer is not slam the bucket on zombie and run away.
It's pour the water down to wash them away! In a suitable scenario all the mob will be washed 8 blocks away, enough to defuss creepers. You can just sit in the water and regen or do whatever you want, maybe build a wall around you so skeletons can't shot you......
[Pro trick] This trick is mostly used against mobs, but if you ever happened to be retarded and you want to fight a iron golem with no armor, use a water bucket on him. Iron golem's AI will become passive in water, which means that he will not fight back in water.

    7. Break cobweb
It's slow and annoying to break cobweb using sword. And your sword get damaged by 2 breaking a cobweb. And not everybody carry shears on them every now and then.
It's time to pull out your water bucket, pour water on the ceiling and wash away cobwebs! It even drops string, so why waste your sword and your time on them when you can just pull out your dear water bucket? When well positioned, water can also negate the spawning of cava spiders (since normally you'll only need to break cobwebs in stronghold library and near cava spider spawner).

    8. Cobblegen
Cobblestone generator. It's also as famous as Minecraft itself, but there's still people who don't know how to do this (including Pewdiepie). So I'm gonna offer a simple design.
    (first layer)
[water] [air] [air potential cobblestone] [lava]
    (second layer)
    [block] [air] [block] [block]
mine cobblestone at the "potential cobblestone" place and mine all day to your hearts' content!

    9. Remove annoying water
Sometimes a exposed water source block on the edge of a cliff can become pretty annoying.
Aim at the source and double right click using water bucket.
And the water is gone! At no additional cost!

    10. Fight mob
Mob like enraged silverfish or even simply zombies under daylight could give you a nasty shock and set you on fire, which is both annoying and potentially deadly. Stand in water when fighting enraged mob especially silverfish is a great idea, and yes, it also works on baby zombie, killer bunny and other fast-moving mob. Their mobility would be greatly restricted by water and happy days you go! (Special thanks to TailchaserMC for reminding me of this trick)

    (next thread sneak peek: Torch!)
  2. These are great tips, and I do most of them already. I'm never without my trusty bucket. For #3, I like to use torches, they have the same effect. #4 Ender pearls or a stack of blocks are the way to go here. #5 This is quite tricky, like you said, that's why I rarely take off my elytra, it's much safer. #8 How do you keep the cobble from falling in the lava?
    I would like to add:
#10 Water is helpful for clearing out areas of grass (to get seeds or whatever reason) or snow layers if you don't like looking at snow or want to clean up blizz trails in the /frontier.
#11 Water is necessary for certain types of combat which involve fire/lava. If you have flame enchantments and hit a zombie, sometimes they like to return the favor. If you're quick enough, you can safely detonate a creeper, assuming it doesn't get washed the other direction. And there are bosses that hit with fire. Water can save your life then.
Can't wait to see what you have to say about torches! Are you planning to do a thread on the uses of carrying a lava bucket?
    607 and Nickblockmaster like this.
  3. Very sweet thread! Nice. :)
    I don't think I knew about tricks #4 and #7, actually!
  4. for #4, ender pearl is not that easy to get unless you have access to Endertopia(which i don't). the whole thing about using water is to not leave behind cobble tower, and if some retarded person(and potentially noob) dig a one block tunnel(aka digging straight down) you will not block the tunnel by using water bucket. Ender pearl can only go 30 blocks or so when thrown straight up, so if the cliff is 40 blocks high, then cobble tower or water bucket.
for #3, torch would break and it's really annoying.
for #8, stand in the water or just stand on top of cobble and jump after you've pick it up. you can also install hoppers.
lava bucket? yes of course! this series is created to teach you some nice way to use stuff that you don't use much normally, so lava bucket is definitely planned!
the use of water when fighting mob should be added now!

  5. Wait, you are going to do more? You started the OP with implying you wouldn't. :p
  6. xD it's just a joke, new thread is out now
