  4. Lately I've been listening to a ton of Ásgeir ("I Should Live in Salt" is my favorite by him, but I've just kept his whole repertoire on shuffle). However, in terms of songs that have real meaning to me...

The big one since the beginning of this summer has been the acoustic version of "Waves" by Dean Lewis. It's cheesy, but it speaks to me. It was Sunday night the first time I heard it; I had been commuting to my family homes on the weekends, so I was now heading away from there to back where I was staying for my summer job, chosen specifically as a means of advancing my desired career. I'd just finished reading a book that was making me question everything that I had set out to do in life, and I was realizing that there was a good chance that the power I was seeking–the ability to make the changes I wanted and that I based so much of my identity as a person in–would never amount to anything in reality, and I would end up in old age looking back on a life of gridlock and failure.

Little things; no major event in my life. Just doubts that I had never, ever had had before, doubts in the one part of myself--my life's mission--I had never questioned. And this song came on, crooning of the passion of youth and imagination "slipping through my fingers," and, well, it struck a nerve. And it still does strike that nerve.

I could go on for ages and ages talking about other music that speaks to me...
    • "Breezeblocks" by alt-J (...and "Dissolve Me" ...and "Dancing in the Moonlight" ...and pretty much everything by alt-J)
    • "Bronx Sniper" by Mister Heavenly
    • "San Francisco" by The Mowglis
And so on. ("Everytime We Touch," by Cascada, will always be an iconic chapter in my childhood.) Music is such an important part of my life, and countless songs seem to evoke specific memories, nostalgias, hopes, fears, and contentments.

  5. I have often referenced this song on EMC, and to the people that have never heard it, I'm sure quoting it sounds really strange. Anyways, Think of Me is one of my favorite songs from The Phantom of the Opera, and it is one of Toade's favorite songs as well. :) My computer science teacher recently sang it for a dare during class, and she sounded incredible, almost exactly like Christine. It was cool :D

Allentown by Billy Joel is a song that I hold very close to my heart. It was the song that I danced to in my first dance recital when I started taking dance again in 5th grade. However, it is also a song that I used to distract myself last August when my grandfather passed away. :( I hadn't heard it in years, but trying to recall it and the positive feelings it gave me helped me to calm down. :)

  6. HASH THAT'S AMAZING IT'S NOT CHEESY AT ALL HE'S AN AMAZING ARTIST AND I HONOUR YOU FOR LISTENING TO THE ACOUSTIC VERSION YES!

apologies but music is just a strong love of mine.. ANYWAYS!

If I am going to comment on this thread I might as well go all out huh? If you know me, than you know I love my British artists more than I love myself. In order for me to address each song and explain why they are close to my heart I need to list the artists first. Not saying they all need to be British but.. my all time favourite artists at the moment are the following:

    1. Lewis Capaldi:

I found Lewis bout 6 months ago via a sad playlist on Spotify. I decided to just throw on a pre-made one from Spotify themselves and I listened to his voice and melted. In those 6 months he has not only helped me improve insanely with my singing from watching him preform, but I've taught myself guitar because of him which is purely amazing. I do not ever see myself not loving him and his talent and I really want more people to see how much he really has to offer. I am very selective of my artists that I tend to personally cling to and I hope to one day write a song with "America's Sweetheart". This is his newest song, "Before You Go". I find this song extremely heart breaking if you ever have had to let something or someone go in any form. I recently went through a nasty breakup and I find this song 100% better than his crowd winning "Someone You Loved" or "Hold Me While You Wait". I'll link "Before You Go" and "Bruises" because I think those two are pretty solid choices, of course going against the bandwagon with the popular favourites. "Bruises" also has an amazing music video which I take to heart because of abuse and my outlook on that. Lewis's extended version of his newest album "Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent" comes out tonight and I bet I'll find another song I connect to there.. and also that is the hell of a album name.

    "Before You Go":

    "Bruises":

    2. Bazzi:

Andrew Bazzi. I wouldn't be surprised if no one knows this name by first glance. Bazzi has been my all time longest loved artist since his 2018 album "Cosmic" came out. His #1 song at the time being "Beautiful" and quickly being passed by "I.F.L.Y" when his 2019 album "Soul Searching" came out. Bazzi would be the 3am inspiration I needed to continue to push myself through the struggles when working in the music industry. Whether I messed up lyrics, completed chords for a song without a proper save, anything really. His album really hit me harder than I expected. He always talks bout his family struggles and how he grew from a teen on Vine singing 7 second clips to someone who tours and has all these albums within a matter of a handful of years.. but to see physical pain be expressed through music.. that is a feeling you never forget. How could someone so carefree also be so controlled by society? His song "Live Forever" took me by surprise when I first listened to it. I could say his main stream songs are favourites too but "Live Forever" has a different vibe. I always told myself growing up that life has to expire at one point. Now being almost 17, I've realized that isn't the case at all. After hearing this, it really just makes me appreciate things more and really makes me want to live forever. I also recommend "Fantasy" but for the people who actually read these, I don't want to waste anymore of your time.

    3. James Arthur:

This beautiful man has completely stolen my heart for so many reasons. I don't have as much as a connection with James as I do with Bazzi and Lewis. Although his older music is still amazing I find this new album "YOU" to have a more personal grab at ones feelings. When "YOU" came out I was honestly super upset. I was disappointed in the quality of the lack of heart in the album. Knowing James I expected a couple songs to be completely full proof and I wouldn't have to even think twice bout liking. I was wrong. Out of the album, I found "Quite Miss Home" to be the most gut whirling. Being someone who has never had a place to call a solid home, I miss home overall. I miss small things bout certain places and people that I know I will never see again. This song just makes me think simpler bout the little things in life and all I can do is smile. Besides "Quite Miss Home", the only other song I found super emotional was "Cars Outside". You can probably tell from the title, it's pretty in the feelings kinda song. Especially with all his success and his home location and popularity in the US, I can't imagine how hard it is to never have time to unpack anything, emotional or physical baggage. I understand that on a whole other level. I would like to add the album cover. It is a glass reflection, thus when you buy it.. it reflects your reflection.. cough cough.. "YOU".

    4. Dean Lewis:

First of all, THANK YOU HASH ISN'T DEAN AMAZING? Anyways, I am pretty sure everyone has at least heard "Be Alright". It is one of his most popular songs on the "A Place We Knew" album that came out this year. Dean for me has become a staple in my life and I'm glad he's finally really blowing up in my opinion. This Aussie singer took me and my mother's hearts just like Lewis did but a whole hell of a lot easier. His songs are just something we bond over and I enjoy it a lot. My favorite song from him is "7 Minutes", but I have to agree with Hash on this one and say that "Waves" has to be the one that cuts the deepest. For me, just thinking bout feelings and thoughts crashing down then being okay, then not so okay.. really does seem like waves. Everyone connects differently but it definitely is an amazing song. "Stay Awake" also has a big impact on me, but again "Waves" hits harder.. literally. I wish I could say more bout Dean and his songs but this is all I got, sorry. His music videos do link up to tell a story, if you check him out watch them in order of the album I believe.

    5. Alec Benjamin:

Finally, last but not least.. Alec Benjamin. This kid will always have a special place in my heart. I remember coming across him when I was just starting my whole music journey and seeing someone so young and so talented was truly refreshing. He started posting demos of songs he has written and never got much further than a cover with. Alec was once signed to a previous record label who dropped him for stupid reasons. Happy to say now that he's signed to a new one and is making more and more public music, instead of YouTube demos. I know I have seen his name a couple times on the EMC forums and he's a super wholesome guy. If I really want to be that person I would link the whole damn playlist for you but I'll pick a few of my favourites and explain. "Worst Day of my Life" is bout when he got dropped from his previous record label. I cannot connect to him on this personally, and I hope to never have to, but it 100% hits harder when you feel lost and have a bad day. I've had a lot of "Worst Days" and in the song he talks bout making sure to find the light, even though it is hard. My second emotional banger is "The Wolf and the Sheep". I am not going to go into too much detail about the story of this song, but it affects everyone differently. I mentioned earlier how everyone wants to grow up or how I saw life growing up and this one really touches on that. Finally, "Last of Her Kind" and "Now She's Getting Married" are very similar to me emotionally and how they impact me relates to the same. "Last of Her Kind" was something I would send to a friend of mine when he would have fights with his girlfriend. It really plays on the whole bettering each other in a relationship, but also not being able to because of how broken that person is. If you know me personally, you get it. Lastly, "Now She's Getting Married", where do I begin? It is just soulful and wholesome. Watching someone slip away to someone else is very difficult, specially if you still miss them romantically or just in general. We all grow up and we all watch our friends change, but you can't help but wonder sometimes bout what could have happened.

If you made it this far, congratulations. I apologize for the absolute mess I call a reply. I never speak out because I feel like I have too much to say but.. Also, I capped media.. so I just linked the ones I could not embed. My favourite songs are the media ones. I didn't spend an hour doing this for nothing so.. I probably got off topic a bit but o'whale.. enjoy all and I look forward to seeing everyone else's artists! :p
  7. but he's so good though, like even if you dislike him you can't say he's a bad singer. his range is amazing and voice in general is pretty cool.. plus his tats are sick lol
  8. I know Bazzi purely for the amount of EDM remixes of his songs LOL. one of my music youtube channels has like 8-12 Bazzi remixes uploaded

p.s. my favorite is probably Mine :p

  10. When I saw this post, I started with high expectations of it, considering your great movie review thread. The first two sentences raised them, although during the third sentence I became a bit sceptical. During the following sentences, my expectations plummeted. Then I clicked the link, and they were disappointed still. ;) However, the grey text has given me a sliver of hope.

(I had to rewrite this post related to internet issues, but I'm glad, as it was short and it is a lot better this time around :p)
