  1. In the past, I subscribed to Pandora. I love the music discovery. Create a station, let the Music Genome Project take care of finding things with similar elements. You can tune the station by saying "Yes! This song is good!" or "meh" or "eww, what were you thinking? not only no, but never no!". When I was a subscriber, the desktop used Adobe Air (aka Flash) player. I don't know if that is still the case. I stopped subscribing as soon as:

Along comes Apple Music, with the entire iTunes library that is of significant size. As a subscriber, you can listen to any track or any album that you want. You can listen to curated radio stations, or create your own based upon any track you like. The discovery is not nearly as impressive as Pandora's, nor is the tuning as versatile.

    Then there is Spotify.

Spotify has a library similar in size to Apple's, and has the similar options of any track, any album. As a subscriber, it is also ad free like Apple Music and Pandora.

For those that have used these services, what is your opinion? What do you like / dislike about each. Which do you use?

For those that will compare the free versions, I offer:

  2. I have the free version of everything, jaqque. Stop flexing on us smh :p
I used to use Pandora, and I thought it was pretty good. I don't really remember what I liked/disliked about it because it was years ago that I last used it. Then I switched to Spotify for no reason other than I wanted to. Spotify is nice, but you can't really pick particular songs unless you're listening to a playlist with that song in it, and you can't skip a lot unless you get premium (which I don't have lol).
My favorite way to listen to music, even though it isn't streaming, is: I have this old MP3 player that I use. I go to the yt video of the song I want to put on it, strip the audio, and download it. For each song. Individually.
This way, I can skip around as much as I want, it's really portable, it doesn't suck up data when I'm off wifi, and it's free! Yes, it takes awhile, but I actually enjoy having to spend some time downloading each song.

  3. JAQ HOW DARE YOU START SUCH A CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC MY LORD!

I think I used Pandora back in what.. 2014? I use to use it for school because Spotify at the time was too much for my 11 year old mind to comprehend. I had like three radio stations that consisted of Katy Perry, James Arthur, and Ed Sheeran. All my friends used Spotify but the ads on it would make me wanna scream so I never touched it. Until, bout 3 years ago I started using it religiously. I don't belong to a religion but YOU BET Spotify premium will be coming off my bank card each month. That $10.59 is worth every penny to me.

Keep in mind I am someone who works in the music field, I roughly listen to bout 30-60k songs a year.. I know.. insane right? I actually wrote an essay on which streaming service was better, of course making Spotify superior. I have also used Apple Music and to be fair it's kinda pointless. The only difference in my eyes is that Spotify premium is more for saving playlists and songs offline, that way you don't need internet to stream it and can use it without killing data. It also give you ad free listening experiences but the ads on Spotify could be worse. I used Apple Music for a matter of 3 months before completely throwing it to the wolves. As someone who use to use iTunes, and has an iPhone.. what a pointless streaming service. If you're someone who loves iTunes and having your music there then I suggest Apple Music, but it also is one of those services where you better not plan to stop paying.

In the end, you can tell I'm somewhat passionate bout this kinda stuff. Anything music related I will fight someone over.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    SPOTIFY:
this is the supreme lord and we shall honour them and their presence, $9.99 a month gets you ad free, offline listening, and unbelievable song freedom
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    PANDORA:
tbf I haven't used it in forever, the ads are ads and to me it's the baby rage of streaming services
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    APPLE MUSIC:
basically Spotify, $9.99 a month gets you any song you want, listen anytime.. but if you cancel you lose your saves and any music you didn't actually purchase separately
    ---------------------------------------------------------

    BOLD STATEMENTS HERE PEOPLE..
if I am wrong bout anything please let me know so I can correct it, it's been ages since I have used anything else since Spotify so spare me :')

  4. Just curious but your only complaint about apple music is if you stop paying you'll lose the saved playlists. Would that not be the same for the other services? Or do they keep the playlists and just then force you to listen to ads for the free service?

  6. Tower, with Apple Music, you pay the same price and all that jazz. Unlike Spotify, where you basically are just paying for offline listening and no ads, you are paying for the songs themselves without actually buying them individually. If I go download an album and I have Apple Music, I don't pay a dime. If I stopped paying for my subscription then I lose my free download. Overall though, that is my only complaint.

Hopefully I cleared it up for you :p

  7. Wait, what? I have used Spotify a few times, and I could play any song I wanted to. After 5 songs or so an ad would play, which was unskippable, but after that I could play whatever I wanted again.

Most of the time I use YouTube, though, because I'm active on that platform anyway, and because it features ample social features (Spotify doesn't let you comment on songs, does it?).

  8. I guess boscodo is referring to the spotify mobile app. There, you can not select and play a specific song without premium. Only shuffle is available.
On the desktop app and in the web browser, you're allowed to pick any song.

  9. Spotify. Student discount gets me that and Hulu for $5 a month.

  13. Yeah, I'm talking about mobile :p
Desktop Spotify is good too, but I find it a little glitchy. Or maybe that's just my slow computer haha

  14. I would say it's your computer, I use to have that problem when I used my laptop for it. Since I bought my computer it's been nothing but smooth sailing so.. but I think it works better on desktop personally but mobile Spotify works the best out of all the streaming services I've noticed.

  15. Huh, that's quite unique. :p It does explain some ads for Spotify premium that I have seen!
On mobile YouTube isn't ideal either, though, because it can't play in the background.
