What is one song do you hold dear?

  1. I love this list! But I've always wondered if any Classical lovers also enjoyed Neoclassical metal, like End of the Beginning by Jason Becker, one of the most perfect songs I have ever heard, it's a mix of classical music with rock and metal, while still not being a rock song per say, the melodies are beautiful, and this was only done when he was 19!

I'm also adding this as a song I hold dear for this thread...

Since you love Classical music, I highly suggest you listen to this from beginning to end, I would consider Jason Becker at a level close to great composers such as Mozart and Bach.

  2. System of a down, specifically bomb and prison song. Two of the few songs about the United States that have any truth at all to them.
  3. If you like songs about the failure of the USA, here ya go
  4. I've considered, and I don't think there is any!
Although maybe there would be if I considered my favourite video games, but usually I don't think about that when associating with 'song'.
  5. Currently, my country favorite lineup:

  6. Not really, honestly, I don't really like neoclassical metal, though I do actually like normal metal/rough rock.

Most younger people I know who also listen a lot to classical music, also are fans of Jazz and other experimental music, normal Metal being quite frequantly one of them. Most "metal" comes in Hidden-orchestra typed music, (I don't know the actual name) and other more experimental/"different" styles. Most people I know who also listen to classical music a lot tend to be just music fans, and listen to all the "interesting" (meaning not four chords) music, that includes classical music, but also a lot of Metal, Rock, blues, anything, really and personally, I like to keep things on the jazzy side. :)
  7. What did you think of the song?
  8. So many songs, I'll mention a few...

For those of us "old" enough to remember, there was Billy Joel - a great songwriter with a great catalogue of 70's and 80's hits, but most memorable of his because it tells a storyline as a good few of his did...

Next would be the great Jim Steinman responsible for most of Meat Loaf's hits - Bat out of Hell, what an album - again taking us on a journey...

What list would be complete without the best of all, Queen. This track from the Sheer heart attack album takes me back to when I seen them live at the Glasgow Apollo 1977 (A day at the races tour)

  9. Purple Rain by Prince.

My dad passed away as it ended and we also played it at his funeral. I walked into that chapel and placed his coffin at the altar with that playing, perfectly timed to end with us all getting to our seats.

Prince was his favourite artist and one of the only artists he ever went to see live. It was my favourite song of all time too, but now it's his song and it's special to me.

  10. oh boy here we go again....

I've always loved EDM above all else, and it really got started by discovering Galantis and Proximity on youtube.

Since it's too difficult for me to pick just one, here's my top three electronic albums ever (EDIT: not really in order, but i guess #1 would probably be my top choice since it came to me first, lol)

    1. VIRTUALSELF - VIRTUALSELF + UTOPIASYSTEM tour (2017, utopiasystem tour was 2018-2019)

This entire project is by the guy who made Worlds and Shelter (weebs, unite!), and it's nothing short of amazing. My top song, Ghost Voices, became so popular it got nominated for best dance recording in 2018 (but we dont talk about the 2018 grammys). Besides the album (with faves such as EON BREAK and A.i.ngel [Become God]), my favorite remix is definitely the VIRTUALSELF edit of Deapmash - Halcyon

    2. ZHU - Genesis Series (GenesisWHY) [2015]

This was ZHU's second ever album in 2015 and after it premiered on Proximity i couldn't get over how great it was. So many legends in the EDM community at the time (such as A-Trak, Trombone Shorty, Skrillex, and Alunageorge) helped put the project together and really set ZHU up for the successful career he has now. His follow-up to this, GenerationWHY, is another album i frequent, although it lacks any big collabs that GenesisWHY had.

    3. REAPER - RAPTURE EP (2019)

Monstercat:Uncaged puts out some of the best bass music on the planet imo. I first got into the channel after Bossfight joined the team and put out a bunch of bangers like Work. Two other artists i keep track of are KUURO and Stonebank.

REAPER is the most recent addition to the team, and his debut SAWTOOTH is probably the best drumstep song i've ever heard. Since August he's put out 4 other epic tracks on the RAPTURE EP (plus a collab with Blanke outside of Monstercat) and he should be putting out some stuff soon :)

just as a note: electronic music kept me going growing up when everything else made me want to shut down. I went through a bit of depression/bad times around about two years ago and it saved me from the self-depreciating cycle i was stuck in. <---- comes up every veteran's day when people ask me what it was like growing up with a father in the army.

  11. I personally love...

Everytime it went on you could never stop my family from singing it until it was over :D

  12. I don't think you know what you're talking about.
  13. Scenes from an Italian Restaurant is not only one of my favorite songs because it's a great song, but also because of Billy's story behind it. One of my other favorites is Fleetwood Mac's Landslide because it will always bring my mood up.
  14. I think there are some interesting genres and songs posted by the people in this thread. :)

  15. So I may seem like a basic white girl when i say it, but honestly, is have to go with Hey There Delilah.

And mainly because that song has been engraved in my head and every time I hear it I think of good and bad memories of my life and I sing every time. I think it's a beautiful song with great lyrics and it gets me going every time.

Nowadays though a song I hold close to me would be My Heroine by Silverstein, since it was the song that kick-started my love for that band and the album that song was on helped me out in so many ways.
  16. I know well what I am talking about
  17. It might have to do with the circle you run in. I would imagine with Junior High kids you run with that's probably correct. But adults I know that profess to be Queen fans are very aware of the music Queen put out. I was in the fourth row for Queen during their The Game tour in 1980. Great show.
