(suggestion) Cannot Egg a Named Mob

Discussion in 'Suggestion Box Archives' started by KatydidBuild, Sep 9, 2019.

  1. In order to keep some mobs as "pets" or as personal ownership,
add the restriction to not be able to egg any named Mob (nametag used on mob or renamed spawn egg).
This would include villagers, polar bears, etc in the Frontier (for sure!) and in the Waste (please) This would keep those mobs safe that someone is using as 'decorative' or mood enhancements to their builds.

This goes straight to the heart of anti-griefing 'Play your way' of EMC.

It already works that you can't egg someone else's horse. So, expand it to all the mobs.
Understanding that the line would have to be drawn for hostile mobs - no pet zombie, because you can't egg a zombie.

  2. So build mode for animals, via naming them?

  3. That seems correct. But strikes me as a coding question.

I just want named mobs to be protected. Don't care how we get there :D Just tell me the command and it shall be so.

  4. It is desired to add a 'Pet' concept. Feel free to expand on this idea - so whenever we get to it - there are suggestions available

  5. This would be a big help keeping the mooshrooms alive out at PWU. +1 Great idea Katy :)
I think renaming an egg is just for fun. Silly names, gifts, etc.
To make a pet, I'd think you'd want this tied to using a nametag on a non-hostile mob. Much like taming a horse, it takes a little time/effort that way. There would need to be limits. Maybe 10 pets per player or something like that? I think EMC could also add a supporter perk and generate some revenue from it possibly? For example, Gold = you can make 1 extra pet and Diamond = you can make 2 extra pets. Then cap that at a maximum per player. Just an example. Details I'll leave to the experts!

The limits would also help cut down on the animal pranks. It won't prevent them. Never underestimate the determination to pull off a good prank. The best prank ever played on me was someone carefully lifted all my chickens out of their pen. I had like 50+ chickens running loose in the basement of my first house. Eggs everywhere. Chickens hiding in all sorts of crazy spots. I was still finding chickens 2 weeks later. I made lots of cake from that incident, and I think I gave Seffy lots of eggs for even more cake.
Now what would not have been cute is if I had no way to clean up that mess. If you don't think someone (or a group of someones) wouldn't spend the time to tag and rename 100 chickens, have you met EMC? ;)
I don't think we can prevent that sorta thing, and that's fine. I think we just need an easy way to enact "clean up". Having mods spend 2 weeks at my place cleaning up chicken poop is not a good option. Bothering SS is even lower on my list of good solutions. If the mods had an easy way to see who tagged the mobs (much like horses), and could mark a zone to remove all animals owned by playerX, that would be optimal.

  6. Due to the danger of the butcher/send to the out-of-town farm command by SS even (looking at you Dwight and BigDavie), this is something that is definitely still SS+ only.

  7. Really thinking this would help keep a cleric at the gold farms to trade with, too.
