Minecraft Launcher problems

  1. SO... since the update to the minecraft launcher that makes it look all fancy... I haven't been able to log in. If I try to use the latest version I get an error that says it can't download a certain ".jar" file. when I try to use the 1.8.9 version I get the error in the picture below. The file for later versions is similar but it isn't the same file.

I can't access the .minecraft folder on the computer that I am using so I am not sure if there is anything I can do about it but I figured I would ask and see if anyone had another idea. I have downloaded the launcher every day since it has been updated to try to log in but get the same error, so it isn't something I can just redownload and try again, I have tried dozens of times.

I had this problem before and at some point one of the updates fixed the problem but I was never able to find a work around.

  2. I've personally been a long fan of the MultiMC launcher, you could try using that. :)

  3. Isn't there a thread for posting about issues for the developers?
  4. Gawadrolt,

Have you considered this could be due to some malware on your system? Or also possibly due to an over-protective anti-virus? Both of these possibilities were returned when I looked into this for you. There are numerous programs to remove malware, one of which is Adwcleaner and it was also specifically suggested elsewhere for this issue. Also, you could use a program called Tweaks to restore basic Windows functionality. My parents are always having an issue with their internet connection, I am not sure how they manage to get it so corrupted, but I have used this Tweaks program numerous times to correct their problem. Also, simply try turning off your Anti-Virus while downloading it to see if it will work that way. One site suggested that AVG was blocking their download.

Good Luck, and I hope it is as simple as one of these remedies.

  5. Yes, there is. This isn't an EMC issue, though, and therefore not something EMC staff can do anything about (unless they actually know the solution, but they could just as well post that here as in another thread). :)

In addition to Adwcleaner, I suggest Malwarebytes. They are from the same creators, but search through different issues. :)

  6. I believe this issue is in part due to using a public computer at the library.
I have also experienced this before, as the public computers tend to err on the side of higher settings on anything you download (that will be wiped the same week).
See if you can bring it to the attention of the I.t. people and get it allowed as a permitted download.

  7. I am going to try the tweaks and the mcmulti launcher thing. I doubt I would be able to bring this to the attention of the IT people. They have intentionally put blocks on world of warcraft because people were bogging down the network. I have had problems with other games like swtor and smite as well. It is likely because of the software that they use here. I doubt that an adware or malware cleaner would work since the computers completely reset everytime someone logs off and deletes everything back to a restore point. Thank you all.

  8. IT WORKED THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
  9. Happy to hear that! :) In general I like MultiMC much more than the regular launcher, which is why I've completely switched to it, with no regrets. :D

  10. Well, I am definitely going to be using it quite a bit. I haven't been able to play Minecraft for over a month so I should be on quite bit now.
