New Players are only given choices to Go to Frontier or Town

  1. When new players are completing the tutorial, they are only given 2 options: Frontier or Town

The Frontier near the Spawns is a mess. New players frequently don't understand that they shouldn't go to the Frontier first thing. They need supplies... they should be sent to the Wastes and NOT the Frontier.

Could the Tutorial be changed to give them the Waste options or at least, add the 3rd option. The following is the tutorial finish, as of today.

Another option, what about a 30 minute or 1-hour cooldown timer so that new players can't access the Frontiers until they have gotten some commands down and gone for supplies or asked for help, etc.

Then they understand that we want to respect and preserve the Frontier. From the names given "wild" vs. "town" it is no small wonder that they make a mistake, only to realize it later (i hope).

    Thanks for reading this.
  2. This is a good idea and maybe have a option of going to their home plot as well?

  3. I do agree we should include a mention about the Wastelands, but I don't think players should be locked to town for the first hour or so. To me, that seems unfair to the new players who might want to explore and it won't help with the problem.

Officially, the Frontier is for the players to do what they want, so limiting new players' abilities to go there because we want to respect the land isn't a good idea because that's not what EMC stands for

  4. Going straight to the wastelands is also a little dangerous, though, as unless there is clear warning (maybe even if there is clear warning, I'm afraid), many people won't realise that the wastelands will reset, and will build their permanent base there.
  5. We're actually changing it to only send them to town so they must actively type the commend to end up in the frontier/wastes after. Should be changed by March 1st, FYI.
  6. Good to hear.
Didn't realize you were working on it already. That ought to help a lot then.

Any chance of a 'spawn area clean-up' also being scheduled as well?
  7. I disagree that the point of the Frontier is to do whatever they want. I understand it to be exploring and building and communities and etc, with rules about establishing communities and really big builds.

But not for strip mining and just trashing the area for the first 30 minutes of checking out their new server -- that is the EXACT definition for the Waste.

  8. I am so happy to see this. As I've been saying. Players shoould go to town first, get set up, and then they can adventure on their own. So many time people went to the frontier to see the torn up empty landscape and left because it is a terrible first impression. So happy to see this change finally :D

  9. I think you mean second impression, as there is a large protected area within which you can't build or break blocks. ;) When I joined EMC that made me be rather impressed by how pristine the wild looked... until I got out of the protected area and saw the ravage around it.

  10. This is a good change. It makes the obvious choice the right choice for new players.

Please don't make it too hard to reach the frontier, or put in a mandatory waiting time. I've seen 3 days, or 1 week proposed.

I joined EMC because it had a frontier that wouldn't reset. Within hours of joining I'd run out and placed the chest that established my outpost. I was so excited! Having to jump through hoops or worse, being forced to wait a week, might have killed that excitement.

  11. No minimums and we'll make it plenty easy.
  12. May I also add the suggestion that the tutorial use the phrase "Wild Frontier" so as to clarify that is just one place.
  13. this does not seem to have been changed yet... any timeline on when we can expect this?
  14. Had a delay in something else I was working on that pushed this back. Looking at this weekend with some other minor wording changes to the tutorial.

  15. This seems counter productive. Especially as of late I have seen several new people never even set foot in town. Town is often barren, near a new persons res, compared to what they find in the frontier and they don't see resources save for the dirt under them, which may be another thing to frustrate new players that joined a "survival" server.
  16. The signs, etc on a res when new players start are going to be updated as a part of my update. All this change requires is that they have to understand the concept of there being different worlds with different play styles. They start in a 'safe' area, then have the option to venture to the non-safe area.
