Hello Empire! Just curious as who all knows about FIRST and those who participate what programs they are involved in! Please share funny moments of robotics
I don't believe I've heard of FIRST robotics. I did, however, participate in BEST robotics a few years ago. It was quite fun
The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams of high school students, coaches, and mentors work during a six-week period to build game-playing robots that weigh up to 125 pounds (this year weight can change yearly) . Robots complete tasks such as scoring balls into goals, flying discs into goals, inner tubes onto racks, hanging on bars, and balancing robots on balance beams. The game, along with the required set of tasks, changes annually. While teams are given a standard set of parts, they are also allowed a budget and are encouraged to buy or make specialized parts. The FIRST Robotics Competition is one of four robotics competition programs organized by FIRST, the other three being FIRST Lego League Jr., FIRST Lego League, and the FIRST Tech Challenge. Hmm never have heard of BEST, what's the basis of it?
FIRST robotics sounds pretty similar. In BEST, you're given certain materials and a programmable "brain", and your team builds a robot to complete certain tasks within a set amount of time. I believe it has both middle School and high school divisions.
I wanted my school to do botball but the tech teacher was too lazy to get a team going (I tried and even made google forms but he never sent them out)
So same kind of concept, FRC might just be a bigger scale. Keep trying/pushing! See if you can get a parent to make the team and sign up as a coach through the school. See if another teacher may be interested!
Oh, now I know why the name sounded familiar! I took a peek in my brother's studybook for second grade English class a couple of weeks ago, and I really liked it. One of the articles was about FIRST.
Oooooo, I'm glad to know it's getting into books Don't need to be in a class to ask a teacher, consider another teacher too! Our Chem/Physics teacher was the head coach for two years but he is the reason the program still exists at my school!
