[Contest] Life Changes Poetry/Prose Contest

Discussion in 'Empire Events' started by Krysyy, Aug 24, 2018.

  1. Phew. I thought I had lost my writing, but I just remembered I save it in Google Drive, not on my SSHD.
Edit: There was a mistake in it, though! I'm glad I'm checking!
Edit 2: And later, the same mistake again... "have went"

  2. There's vertical spacing after a newline in the input form. Are you going to have that while judging as well? I mean, it doesn't matter as much for prose, but for poetry it could really be an issue.
  3. It shouldn't make too much of a difference. Content above format.
  4. The defenition of what poetry is, at least in Dutch, "Langue where the format matters" (sorry for poor translation... I''m kinda ill = not able to think properly currently) so I'd say it defenetly matters :p

  5. For prose, I might agree. But as Jelle says, for poetry it certainly does. White-space can make or break a poem, not only line width.
But oh well, it's your contest. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'll just submit my prose, now!

  6. If spacing matters for your poem, please take a screenshot and upload to imgur, then include that link, to preserve the spacing. Should solve the problem when it is relevant.

  7. I tried to use tabs in my poem, would that count, Krysyy? If not, then do I need to dm you to resolve that, as I uploaded a while back?
*I manually hit tab where needed...

  8. I grew up on Dr. Seuss books. I have a deep love for rhythm in poetry. So all my prose rhymes and for full effect needs to be read with the "rhythm" correct spacing applies. I don't want to sound like a prose-snob or anything, but...
    IF:
    Chicks with bricks come.
    Chicks with blocks come.
Chicks with bricks and blocks and clocks come.

Else it's just: Hose goes. Rose grows. Nose hose goes some. Crow's rose grows some.
^You don't know where to pause, the rhythm is gone and what's actually an awesome thing to say becomes a simple senseless sentence.

(that being said, I didn't notice any spacing problems when submitting my poem - is it gonna get smushed?)

  9. What if changes isn't my theme because it's hidden behind never changing features.
  10. "Chickeneer for mod" once.
    Chickeneer got mod, dunce.
Check amongst the staff, he's been there for a whole four months (skrrrt).

    am i doing this right

  11. Fox in Socks is my favorite book. It's a subversive book. It's a dangerous book. It says so right on the flyleaf.

My biggest challenge is always the three cheese trees. I always pause, take a breath, and power through it as best as I can.

  12. I can still say, out of all my years of book reading Fox in Socks still is in my top 10. Bim & his brooms always gets me. For the life of me, I can't ever say that right the first try. I need like 6 practice tries. :D I do have the tweedle beetle battles memorized by heart though. :p

  14. Posted my poem.
Decided not to do a writing one this time. I've been to busy.
    Wish me luck!

  19. At least usually there are quite a few entries in the end!
