  1. Yeah for sure, great idea. especially for those in different timezone.
  2. how does facebook help more for different timezones than for example youtube or discord?

  3. One word, Instagram. I know they're owned by Facebook but it's a much nicer platform that I'd rather use to be honest, though I'm not sure if you have the time to set up another social account.
  4. Instagram is for pictures though. We'd be better off with snapchat these days. I think I signed up for an EMC instagram ages back to test something, but I'd have to check.
  5. It does have a live feature, and having an active Instagram could be good for EMC. Up to you though, just a suggestion. It'd only work for IRL stuff though, you couldn't stream anything else. I just really hate Facebook :p
  6. I'm afraid that might not be enough of a reason to count towards Krysyy not using it. ;)
In all seriousness: Instagram would help with the issue of keeping your name private, as on Instagram you have a username, instead of your real name. However, I can imagine not being able to watch something on Instagram without being logged onto a registered account. Am I mistaken here?

  7. I've never watched anything via FB Live, not really my "thing." But for an EMC event I might be tempted. Personally, I would prefer to watch on Twitch, (YouTube live is good too,) but that might be more complicated to set-up on your end. I have no idea about that part...

  8. I would strongly discourage making Facebook a platform for EMC-related activities, officially or unofficially. Won't discuss other options because they're not the topic, but consider this a big resounding "nope" for anything FB.

  9. Yeah I’m 99% certain you need to be logged in to use it. I don’t have a groundless hatred of Facebook though, they’re incredibly disrespectful of privacy and I’m not even going to get into copyright infringement with youtube creators who put tens or hundreds of hours into their work, though most of that is moot since Facebook owns Instagram. I’d just like to get away from their main platform as much as I can, though I might tolerate it for something EMC related.

  10. I would try to support this.
  11. I have fb but I hate using it. I'm a NO on this one, but don't let my opinion ruin it for the majority =)

  12. Alright earlier i voted *yes* but now I'm actually nodding back on it because of the fact only... 3? 4? people know my real name on this server, and that's how I want it to remain. And I'm certain everyone would agree, at least, those who are wise with security.
As much as I hate to say this, it is indeed the truth and we must consider this. No server is perfect. There is gonna be some jerk who sneaks on, sees the names, and takes advantage of it, and will hurt someone before (s)he can be stopped.
So yeah, Youtube is definetely smarter, cause no one would need a second account (well, most). Most of us already use pseudo names on their google accounts (youtube). Thus, we are safe.
Twitch, the same, but it lags like the nether for me, and I can't watch anything on it. :/ So youtube, twitch, yeah, safe bet that I'd say yes. Facebook, I'm going back on.

Sorry if my second paragraph ticked someone off. Truth hurts, kid.

  13. I think YouTube is a much better option.

    1) Better recognized for video streaming and I like the interface.

    2) Privacy. Yes, you could watch without an account, but a lot of people have accounts and then discussion would happen in their real name and people could click through to their profile and get personal information. That basically violates the rules of EMC, and all kinds of risks can be introduced.

That said, I probably wont have much time to watch. But if I did, I think YouTube would be the preference since it's something that I'm really familiar with.

  14. I am good with either Facebook or Youtube.

As far as Facebook is concerned, yes you can actually view a live stream without having an account or being logged in.

As long as the person that is streaming the feed sets the privacy setting of the live video to "public" anyone can watch the Facebook live stream. Only thing is you is that you can't send likes or comments if you do not have an account or are not logged in.

Edit: You could be in discord while watching the video and comment there or voice your comments instead of logging into Facebook. Just a thought.

  15. In order to see posts, you'd have to be logged in. Same can be said for live streams or anything inside Facebook. That mean's others would have to create an account or log in to an existing one for anything to be seen.

But answering the question, I definitely would! If there was a visible schedule or post as to when to expect one, I'd love it!
  16. I think it'd be smart to do both, to give players options. Some people wouldn't really care to have their info shared. The way I see it, is that information you wouldn't want shared with the internet is information that you wouldn't include in your Facebook account. I have my name on there, and I state that I live in Bedford, KY. But that's not info you couldn't look up here on the forums if you wanted to.
If people don't mind it, I say let it be a thing for those who'd watch!
  17. Uh? Facebook is mainly for friends, family, and communities. With those you'd surely share your full name and place of residence. With 'the internet', most people wouldn't share their full name, some not even their place of residence, and hardly anyone shares both.
  18. Then those people wouldn't use the live streams on Facebook. I'm just saying it's an option. And besides, I still wouldn't put my information on Facebook if I didn't want everyone to see. Anyone can search a name and come across your profile.
  19. You won't found my Facebook profile just by searching for my name, I can tell you that. You can find it easily in another way nowadays, though, after I made a certain decision. But I'd rather not have you try. ;)
  20. Both could be offered. I hadn't considered that.

I'm just saying my own personal preference would be YouTube, and it technically violates this EMC rule to use Facebook Live:
    • The Empire is a place for players of all ages to play and feel safe. Always practice safe internet use practices. If someone asks you for your information, do not give it out. Report the action to a staff member immediately.
By using someone's full name and allowing a direct link to their full Facebook profile, the above rule about giving out information is violated the moment someone comments on the video stream. A lot of Facebook users publish their phone number and what school they go to, and may even have enough detail to locate where they live or where they'll be at a particular time. It's not really a matter of if personal information will be shared, but of when it will happen and what the impact will be, and of how long until someone is put in an unsafe situation as a result. I don't want to play into fear mongering as I know serious events are actually extremely rare. It perfectly probably could be many years or decades before there's any impact/incident. But is that acceptable? I'm not sure.

The issue I could see happening sooner might be something involving harassment or bullying. If two community members have a disagreement or maybe a relationship goes sour, that could escalate to happen through Facebook via a comment posted to Facebook Live months earlier. Even if that recipient blocks the harasser, a really aggressive person can also contact all the friends or family and harass them as well or give away personal and damaging secrets. It could potentially have impact on real relationships. Staff would have no control over and limited visibility into that interaction.

So the question is, are these risks acceptable? Maybe they are, I'm just asking.
