[Suggestion] Temporary SS service: birthday Frontier teleports

  1. Hi gang,

For the record: As weird as this my sound this suggestion is not something I'd be using, but I can't help wonder if it wouldn't help a bunch of players to enjoy the celebrations a bit more.

EMC's birthday only happens once every year (duh!) and it's a special period, like the Holiday season period. Now, the staff has always done an excellent job in trying to divide the events amongst different servers so that everyone can get a chance to participate, but some more official events only happen once.

Like, for example, the building of the cake on SMP9 today.

Problem: I think there are plenty of players far out in the Frontier who would love to participate but simply can't.

Suggestion: Allow a temporary teleportation service. Players would be able to request a teleport to town spawn (and back) for a certain amount of tokens (seems like the most appropriate currency to me).

This wouldn't be something you can "just" do. One teleport per player only. So basically you get to pick one event you really want to participate on, and then you can actually go there (and back) even if you're way deep in the wilderness.

Personally I also think some player courtesy should be in order: you'll be requested to empty your inventory. This could even be easily automated. So your stuff stays in the Frontier *. This isn't about making a quick profit, it's a courtesy to allow you to participate in an event.

The main issue I can come up with would be administration: keeping track of who goes where, and when, and making sure that players gets to enjoy this once. But a simple sheet with coords, dates and such should be able to solve that, anyone should be able to help with that (if needed).

    * Sure, there maybe some room for abuse, but honestly: I think players who have profit in mind already are part of an outpost which has the return trip long settled. Just my 2 cents obviously, making the risk marginal.

  2. sounds good
  3. I need this so much o-o
  4. The different events are held on different servers for exactly this reason. Unless one is out in the frontier on all servers. (A very rare thing these days) they can attend atleast 1 event.

This just seems like too much work when all someone has to do is die without a bed...

  5. I don't know,
Of corse, if it would be easy, it would be a great idea, only, it isn't... but, I've got a little idea on how to make it maybe a little more easy to do it all:

You just request a teleport, the items that rea in your inventory/on you will be placed in a unbreakeble chest that also has got something like a signed book in it, one that is locked in place and says when that player will be teleportet back, once the player gets back, the inventory gets cleard again (maybe in the vault or something, or maybe just a request to not have anything in your inventory as you log off...) and gets teleported back to the chest with the book in it. once that chest is emptied it will disappear.

I don't know anything about coding (well, I theoreticly speaking am able to code in java, but that has been over two years ago), but that sounds doeble to me...

  6. Normally I'd be pretty on board with any of your ideas but since you could just place all of your stuff into an ender chest, break your bed, and then just find a way to die it's a -1

  7. also, eventually all events are going to be held on the games server. which would eliminate the need for this so i dont see the need to implement this temporary measure

  8. That works to get to town but then it's a looong trek back to set up a bed again. For some it can days or weeks IRL just to go 1 way.

I'm +1 on this, if implemented correctly. It would only be for those players X amount of blocks away, for the event only, then they go straight back to OP. No chance to do much else. Besides, as stated above if they wanted to be in town to profit they would or at least find a way. These players that far out care more about personal survival than profits.

  9. That's not how I read this, They are still going to hold events on the servers. Why take away from what the players like to do? I don't see ALL events going straight to 1 server.
  10. While that maybe true, that is then, and we're talking now.

    (edit)

Note that with temporary I mean that in the largest sense of the word. So: something only for this current festivity period, and after that it's done. Also: it'll be some work, but considering that even normal moderators can teleport players I think this should be doable with a bit of proper planning and keeping track of administration.

  11. Interesting idea. There are some ways this could be done, if approved.

Ideally would be obvious to new players, be foolproof and safe from abuse.

    Maybe something like this?

    a) Player types /event.
If they are in the frontier they get a chest UI.
It says something like "You can teleport to the event, but your inventory must be empty and you must be standing near your spawn bed. You'll be given a token for a return trip."
    b) Player confirms, requirements are verified, player is given a return token and teleports to the event.
    c) When the event is over, player activates the return token item which respawns at their bed.

(For safety, the token would probably need to be tied to the player, be unique, only usable from the event location, etc.)

  12. Maybe add something in that you cannot bring anything back with you and (if possible) disable enderchest use.

Another question is which events qualify. I've missed a few player ran events because of this.

  13. Though the use of /vaults may be needed for certain events... Just thinking of like the Halloween event where collecting Candy was the task... Seemed /smp1 was the place to always be. Sure you could go to other /smps however if you wanted to be on the global leader board for score you'd need to have been on smp1.

Anyways back to the need for /vault or something.. Where if you had a task to collect items for the event that they'd be able to be safely stored before your tp trip back to the wild...

  14. I think /vault could still be used since you can't open vault in the wild and would only be good in town. That's why I suggested disabling the enderchest.
607, ShelLuser and AncientTower like this.
  15. If this were to happen, it would have to be a way where they are only allowed to TP with soulbound items, all others would have to be left behind to prevent the travel back bypass. This would also apply for going back, the stuff you came with would be allowed (others would be put in your chests, or vault).
  16. Is this not solved by the new "games" server once it goes live? I realize it fixes nothing today but this will allow those in the wild (way out even) to jump to the games server, do the event and return to the same bat channel when they go back to their smp.

So not really -1 the idea but not +1 either because I think we are one the edge of a better solution. Bascially 2nd to bitemenow's response.

  17. the server was originally called the events/games server.
naturally theres still going to be like player and mod events on the servers but all the staff ones are going to be held on the games server. and this topic is regarding the birthday events, which are all "staff" events

  18. +0 (yes and no)
I think this is a great idea but would of been more useful in the past because now the games server is coming soon and there will be no need for that anymore but if we weren't informed about the games server and this was sometime in the past when it was really needed this would be a nice idea.
  19. +9001

Im out in the frontier on 9, and I would not want to waste half my time riding a minecart.
