Mob Spawning issue: natural spawn hostile mob grinder not working afk

  1. Thanks! I'll try that design.
  2. This would be AFK circumvention and is technically against the rules.

  3. Should one be always moving in an AFK farm for mobs to keep spawning? If so, maybe AFK designs are not the best thing to do in EMC...
  4. I am speaking as me, not Moderator Socks or Developer Socks but just plain player Socks.

Do not try and circumvent the AFK system. It is there for a reason and even though our servers tend not to get full much anymore they still do and we want a fair way to figure out who should be kicked to make space for those actively playing.

As for farming. I make farms all the time. I enjoy making them (I don't get involved in the economy so I do it just for the fun of making the farms). As much as I love making farms I just see it pointless and a waist of server resources for you to AFK farm. I can't AFK as I am a Staff member and I still get lots of resources from my farms and quite honestly if I were to enter the economy at this stage it would collapse ;) (so I will not). The point is that you do not need to AFK to make a good farm.

Also, I have not looked in the code but I am pretty sure (based on what I see with my farms if I get marked as being away) that normal mob spawning is halted or reduced if you are AFK. This may be a Bukkit, Spigot, Paper or EMC change (not sure like I said I have not looked). But don't let yourself fall in the trap of trying to afk circumvent to bypass this. It is not worth any possible Moderator action.

I am going back to being Moderator/Developer Socks now :)

  5. I can't recall ever having issues with any of my farms not spawning anything while afk. I assumed the rates were lowered but have not seen any evidence of it being off while afk. I've always gotten what I needed to work with. I had to remove my slime farm since I had no more chest room
  6. Thanks for the explanation Mr. Socks! I'll check the code out as I'm pretty sure I haven't read anything about lower AFK rates in the "Changes from Vanilla MC" page.
