Why do we need to pay to lock chests?

  1. Hello Empire!
I had a thought that's been nagging me ever since I joined.
Back when I first joined we had our ten commandments, and one I distinctively remember was "thou shalt not steal"
However, I've heard multiple stories of people getting their stuff stolen anyway in the wild, so that brought up the question: why do we still need to pay to lock our chests if the rule is to not steal anyway? I personally don't get it but i'd like to hear some feedback from the community to kind of help me understand why.

    Thanks,
    -Ender
  2. Sadly some people aren't going to listen to the rules, which is when moderators come into play.

    But besides that:
    • It's also a good rupees sink
    • Prevents people from ridiculous griefing with locks
  3. I think that if you're in the wild that much to have a ton of locked chests, then you can probably afford it. Maybe it's just me. I think I've spent over 100k on locked chests alone lol I try not to think about it. :p
  4. You could get half of it back if you break them ;)
    ThaKloned likes this.
  5. We'll call it my way of a savings account that takes half :p
  6. If you say so..
  7. One word: Rupee sink
  8. That's 3 words...
    SoulPunisher and SkyDragonv8 like this.
  9. Wait, isn't "Rupee sink" two words? XD I feel like I'm missing something obvious here.

But as Alex said, one of the other reasons is that people could literally build giant cages made of locked chests around the builds of others or just stick locked items all over people's property. The money highly discourages this form of griefing. :)
  10. even if it was allowed, it's not technically economical to attempt it...

it would cost 1.5 mil rupees to have a 16 x 16 x 16 (non full) cube using locked singlechests ...

    1,500,000 / 6 = 250

sqr(250) = 15.8 ...that's the amount of singlechests you can have in a row to make an empty box of singlechests

though if you use doublechests, it would be more economical - you could then have a rectangular prism 4 times the size...

which would be a 31.6 x 31.6 x 15.8 area ... still not that big (that's like 1/4 of the box area of your residence - excluding height)
