Ice blocks (bought from /shop) used to become water source if broken in the nether. This was useful in emergency circumstances or to turn lakes of lava into obsidian. I tried today to use an ice block to make a safety pool near a blaze spawner. The ice block broke but no water. I also tried melting another ice block but it never melted. Is this a bug or is it intentional. I am assuming this is a change in EMC not Minecraft as I can find no mention of it anywhere online.
Did you place the ice block on top of another block? I believe this was the cause of no water forming.
I know that Justin has mentioned before his intentions to disable this feature in the past. So it would not surprise me if he has implemented this. Where as you are saying you would use it for legitimate purposes, most people just place and ice block and leave the water there creating this mess, that is visually appalling, and they were everywhere at a time. Water was never meant to be delivered to the nether in any way, thus the reason you can not mine Ice Blocks... so it is not surprising that Justin has decided against having this ability here.
